OK Academic, now explain please. I truly don't know what you mean.

Ok for those just now tuning in, we were discussing Tomato Staking in the quiverfull forum and Academic stated that it follows the quiverfull worldview or something of that nature.

I disagree in the fact that I don't believe that just because the lady who advocates this is quiverfull, means that the concept is advocated by a quiverfull lifestyle. I do not follow this philosophy in the slightest (we don't even spank our children), and we are quiverfull.

Short explanation of the previous discussion, but you get the picture.

Raising godly tomatoes? Odd.

My view is that you should let the members of a movement define it as they like. If the Quiverfull movement has this parenting practice as a definitional part of itself, then sure, call it necessary. From my reasearch though, Quiverfull is about not using any kind of birth/contraception control, being open to having as many children as God gives you, and following the 'Biblical model' for a family; submissive wives, and all that.

Isn't quiverfull essentially related to the style of parenting in which you teach your daughter that she's a piece of crap? Oh, excuse me, sacrifice. "You don't need to worry about being happy or having a fulfilling life or even a job! You get to have BABIES! Doesn't that sound better than all that other stuff!"

Wow, ummmmm, NO! I'm sorry you feel that way. But, my husband and I are quiverfull, and we don't feel that way. I was in the military before I had my first child. I still have dreams of playing in an orchestra. My daughter is free to choose what to do with her life when she becomes an adult. I cannot control her choices. My sons are taught how to treat women with respect, care, and love. My sons and my daughter are being taught how to clean, cook, and any other skill they need for life.

There are many different types of families who are quiverfull. I have known some who wear only skirts, cover their heads, and are quiet and meek. Me, well, I have a tattoo, am saving for my next one, I wear jeans and t-shirts. I was in the military. And, I am anything BUT quiet and meek.

To me it just boils down to "have as many kids as you can". This to me is irresponsible. We are living on a planet of limited resources (and we are starting to see those limits) and it can't support continuos growth of the human population.

Yikes....there is a big difference. Dad is still in the picture. Were you planning to marry all those drunk/impregnated girls. I have pretty liberal standards, but stay away from my daughters! ;)

Having said that. I once thought I had done some horrible unforgiveable sin. I had used birth control. Many different kinds. (even when I was a drunk girl) Perhaps I had somehow manipulated my situation to be different than God would have planned it. So here I am with 4 children, homeschooling, and thinking what the heck would we do with anymore. ??? It is an idealist picture. Mine has goats and farm in the background. sigh....but reality is kids are hard work and this ain't a pretty world to live in. Maybe I will get to heaven and have many spiritual babies I should have had on earth. Won't that be nice......

I could go back and edit I suppose...or put commmas in....

I am not quiverfull.
I had once wondered if I had made God unhappy by choosing to use birth control.
I know I could not afford to raise more than 4 children.
Idealistically, many children, rolling hills, a small farm that is financially independant, maybe that is what heaven will be. All the spiritual babies I never had on earth.

hope that is more clear.

and stay away from my daughters~;) lol

I just don't see how being quiverfull relates to any one style of parenting.
I get a bit disturbed about some of the religious correctness that some of the quiverfull proponents seem to push, in that if one doesn't "train up" children with rods, and punishment and such, that they are not doing the proper Christian way of raising children. People should be free to have as many children as they want and can afford, but to be pressured spiritually into following certain rules, I call spiritual abuse.

They're outbreeding us! We have to get on the horse! Quick, go meet as many drunk girls as you can. If we're going to do this, we're going to do it liberal-style.

They may be 'outbreeding' us, but how many of their children stay in their faith once they step out into the world? The big bad world that doesn't follow the rules of a book?
