Greetings.

Just wanted to get a rough idea of the Christian and non-Christian populations who frequent "Ethics & Morality".

By "frequent", i mean someone who pops around here when they're at CF, say, at least once or twice per fortnight, and is active (ie, posts stuff).

Vote if you want.

Cheers

It would be more interesting to have a way of polling how others see a person. For example, I would consider myself a Christian, but to others here I am a wolf in sheep's clothing, a false teacher of evil whose only goal in life is to lead astray the faithful... :ebil:

I also prefer the term non-theist to atheist, though atheist will do. However, that says very little about me. My preferred self-identifying label is Eudaimonist.

I like to think of myself as above your pathetic labels. Judge me by my actions, not by these labels society wishes to fit upon me.

Okay, Atheist appears to be the closest fit, so that will do.

I ticked 'atheist'. I don't mind the label itself so much. What I do mind is when some theists ascribe presupposed negativity to all atheists (ie; evil, no morals, destined for hell, dangerous, etc.). It's annoying and does a huge injustice to a lot of good people.

That stereotype bothers me as well. I don't think christians, or believers in general, are the only ones with morals or a conscience (nor do I assume that christians automatically act morally). It's pretty insulting to atheists.

Everyone has a god they worship --- it just might even be themselves. But there is always a god.

Sorry, but you are very much mistaken about this. I am in awe of the universe but I do not worship it or anyone/anything in it.

When will "faith icons" return? I miss those. Even a text field would do.

eudaimonia,

Mark

I'm not too bothered, I try and judge a person by what they say rather than their beliefs. That said, it hasn't stopped my from devising this venn diagram just now to help you decipher who is who (I have a lot of time on my hands this afternoon). I think it is fairly accurate if I do say so myself.

Not without completely draining the word "god" of its usual meaning, and seriously bleeding the word "worship" as well.

I will admit that I have values, some of which are sacred to me. By sacred I mean values that are ends-in-themselves and worthy of being cherished. However, none of these values is aimed at anything that could be reasonably be referred to as a "god", and that certainly includes myself.
