I am going on my first 'official' date with my gf. I was asking for advise from a mentor/ disciple leader in regard to the relationship and such and he said I should talk to her father about the relationship/ ask his permission to date her which I did and that went well...and to bring her mother a flower when I pick her up. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think that bringing her mother a flower as well would be agood idea. It will make a lasting impressing on her parents and show them that you are more than just the average guy. It will also show that you want to get to know them and not just her, and that you aren't there to take their daughter away. Good luck with you first date.

well...thanks for the post...too bad i didnt read them until this morning afterwards ...oh well...I took her a flower anyways. Because I didnt have too much selection I brought them both a single rose...my gf's was red and her mothers pink. Then for the date we went to this up scale part of the city...called the shops at legacy...and went to dinner (which was probably the only place to eat there where it could cost under 20 dollars for 2)...then walked around and stopped by a fancy chocolate shop...went to a movie after about an hour at a place called the Angelika which plays more artsy and indie movies. Afterwards we walked back to the park area and sat on a bench and talked in front of the pond...it went better than I had hoped for...and there will definitely be more dates in the future. It was nice being able to finally compliment her after not 'dating' for several months...I can finally tell her she is beautiful...which I love doing...I love complimenting her....just because what I say is so true and I just feel like telling her. So yeah...I would say I am pretty infatuated with her right now (healthily) and am very content/ happy.

Respect for your girlfriends parents is always extremely vital. One thing I keely tend to remember is that the relationship with a girls parents is just as important as that of which that is going on with the girl. Why? Just think, if you are courting her, then one day, her parents could also be your.

Awww that's sweet Just a heads-up in case you ever hit a family who are sticklers for tradition (most people wouldn't know or care these days)... a pink rose can mean 'romance', a red rose, 'love', and a yellow rose, 'joy' or 'friendship'.

Yeah...and she is smart so she might have thought that...but I am a pretty genuine person...so...I think the more she gets to know me the more she will understand.

Bringing her mom a flower is a good idea. You wouldn't have to, but i'm sure it would leave a good impression. It doesn't have to be a rose or anything. A nice carnation or something along those lines would work as well. Hope this helps, if I'm not already to late
