Hi, I did'nt know where to put this and seemed like no one wanted to answer this question in other threads.. So I made this one and will be posting more questions in this one if I have any.. This is for anyone else with questions as well, and hope some educated christians can answer these...
I'm just getting back with Jesus again cuz I was young to understand anything and partying, and stuff got in the way of my relationship with him and stopped me from going to church... So now I'm reading my bible , but I have been holding back going to church cuz I feel awkward going with my family and feel like I need to take it step by step at a time... Just have a couple of questions to get me started..It's not required to go to church but believing in Jesus Christ is the way to be with him in heaven, is it?? When in the bible, it says Jesus made us in his image, is that meaning in his imagination or his Godly image?? I don't remember exactly what part of the new testament it was but I remember reading, it says, we will one day judge the angels in heaven, why is that, what did the angels do???

In the book of Romans in the New Testament, God's plan of Salvation is spelled out perhaps clearer than anywhere else in the Bible. This book, written by the Apostle Paul, is one of the most reassuring books in the Bible for the Christian, and doubtlessly a frightening prophecy for the non-Christian. First, it explains the natural condition of man in relation to God:

"...There is none righteous, no, not one..." Romans 3:10

" For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23

" For the wages of sin is death..." Romans 6:23a

Next, it describes God's provision for our salvation (entrance into Heaven) in the person of Jesus Christ by His death on the cross:

" But God commendeth (displayed) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

"For as by one man's (Adam's) disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one (Jesus) shall many be made righteous (cleansed of sin in the eyes of God). Romans 5:19

Then, it explains what we have to do to receive the gift of Salvation:

"...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23b

"...That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:9

Throughout the entire Bible, there is complete accord on the matter of our salvation. The only way provided by God is by faith and trust in His Son, Jesus Christ, who paid the penalty for the sins of all people by His death on the cross. The Bible tells us there is nothing we can do of ourselves that is adequate to get us into Heaven:

" Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12

" For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Now get up tomorrow and get ready for church, noone is going to think you hang out with your parents, everyone else has parents there too.

At this point in your walk you DO need fellowship with other christians.
For strength if for no other reason.

It doesnt HAVE to be in that brick building, but unless you have someone who is very steady in their relationship with the Lord that you can spend time with, then the church is probably youre only option.

Fellowship is very critical, mostly early on when you dont have your bearings yet.
Anyone can come along with some deception that looks good, but can only be torn down once you have a solid foundation in Gods word.

If youre studying, thats a great start.
Get E-Sword at E-sword.net I believe it is.
Its great for doing topical studies and finding stuff very quickly.

Big thing is.....QUESTION EVERYTHING.
These are very dangerous times we're in, doctrinally speaking, and you are within your rights, and personally I feel it should be an obligatory, to check EVERY word that anyone tries to teach you agaisnt scripture.

When you learn something new, ask for refernces, then check yourself what it says.
Dont let anyone give you any lines to take their word for it or you cannot understand.

But get yourself into fellowship with some christians very quickly :)

Well, I am watching the Gospel on T.V. Like Paula white, she's a very good speaker... Besides, I'm not very social with other people, I like to keep to myself...I don't hang out with my friends anymore and I do have a positive mind set and attitude towards things, but I do not feel like going to church, I believe in Jesus as my lord and Savior, and I will read my bible and when I get the chance of speaking to others about Jesus I will, I feel when God wants to lead me to church he will, just as he led me into reading the bible again... And you did'nt answer all my questions...

My suggestion would be to read your Bible, and take it slow with each verse. I would start with John, chapter 3, before heading over to Romans. Jesus gives us some pretty clear instructions in that chapter concerning what He ANd His Father require of us if we are to obtain eternal salvation.

Pay particular attention to verses 15, 16, 17 and 18, and verse 36.

Then, I might shift over to Romans and read three particular verses before starting to read the entire Book. Those three verses are Romans 3:23, 6:23, and 10:13. Study them carefully. If you believe what you read in John and Romans, and if you develop a true and abiding love in your heart for Jesus, then find a quiet spot, get down on your knees, and have a long talk with Him. Let Him know how you feel, and what you would like Him to do with you.

If you truly believe, He will love you eternally.

You are right that you don't have to go to church to be a christian, but God does say to fellowship, which I consider it to be in company with fellow christians, like talk with friends who are Christian, learn from others who know more about God than you.

God made us in his "likeness." We are made with a mark of God.

I never heard that we will judge the angels...

HOpe that clears some stuff. I don't go to church, but my best friend and family are Christian. As long as I talk with them about salvation and read my Bible and follow what it says, then I am fine. NO work will get you to heaven, only faith in Christ.

There is no shourt cut to knowledge of God. I suggest you read the Bible through about 3 times before you start studying it.

Its good to go to church. You don't have to go to your families church if you don't want to. I never did.

Everyone will be judged, everyone. Angels in heaven and the saved, those who's name is in the book of life, will be judged for their righteousness and works. The wicked will be judged for their sin.

God bless,

Shok

Good Friend

Please don't take this the wrong way. I think you arn't helping yourself with some practices at present. As you've already seen partying has taken you away from the Lord as it always will. (Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God) So by God's grace continue to stay away from that scene wherever you might find it.

You should not be so quick to discount the need for church attendance. The Bible says we shouldn't forsake the assembling of ourselves together (Hebrews somewhere). Just make sure the place you attend is truly preaching the Bible and that a woman is not doing the preaching. (1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak:) (1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife...)

In regards to God making us in his own image: Yes he did, just as woman was made in the image of man. Well, that's how its described in Genesis anyway so I take it that it speaks of image as in likeness of body, soul and spirit etc.

About judging the angels: Yes we will, (if born again) not at the great white throne judgement but rather in the millenial reign of Christ (if your a premillenialist like me :)

May I ask where the Bible says we will judge angels during the millenial reign of Christ?

What may I ask are you going to tell Jesus? When He ask you why you didn't go to the Church He died for. When the Bible plainly tells us not to forsake the assempling of ourselfs together. You say you read your bible and do what it says? Then you say you are fine not attending Church?

I don't remember, it was in one of the letters from Paul...

Why can't you listen to a woman preacher?? There are plenty of women preaching the word of God and some that are truly filled with the spirit and gift of teaching...

It isn't required to get to heaven, but Jesus and Paul have always emphasized the importance of community and fellowship in our Christian life. It is very difficult to experience the fullness of life that Christ promised us when we are a lone island.

NASB - Genesis 1:26

Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
The Hebrew word for image is transliterated as tselem which in this context means likeness or resemblence and not imagination.

NASB - 1 Cor 6:1-6

Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints?
Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world?
If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts?
Do you not know that we will judge angels?
How much more matters of this life?
So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life,
do you appoint them as judges who are of no account in the church?

I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not among you one wise man who will be able to decide between his brethren, but brother goes to law with brother, and that before unbelievers?
This passage is Paul addressing a concern in the Corinthian church where conflicts cannot be settled in the church and need to go to the secular courts to be resolved. Paul's response is to say, that if Christians will take part in Christ's ultimate judgement of the world and angels, why can't we trust each other in resolving internal disputes.

Here is the response of one commentator to the question of judging angels.
David Guzik's Commentaries on the Bible
a. The saints will judge the world . . . we shall judge angels: Christians shouldn't be fully able to judge their own matters because of our destiny. As we reign with Jesus Christ, we will (in some sense or another) judge the world, and even judge angels.
i. The idea of Christians judging angels is fascinating. It does not mean we will sit in judgment of faithful angels (as if we could penalize them for letting us down or not being there!), but we will have a part in judging evil angels

ii. How great is God's destiny for redeemed men and women! "Is there any statement in the apostolic writings in certain senses which has more definite and tremendous implication of the union of the saints with their Lord?" (Morgan)

iii. The destiny of redeemed men and women, to one day be higher than the angels, and to even sit in judgment of them, must have been a source of great annoyance to a certain high angel in heaven. He did not want to service an inferior creature now, and did not want to have that inferior creature one day be raised up higher than even he. So, he has rebelled against God, and is determined to keep as much of humanity as possible from even sitting in judgment of himself. We can imagine the perverse, proud pleasure Satan takes over every soul that goes to hell: "They won't sit in judgment over me!"

Gold Dragon, thanx, you found what I had read... So when you say we look in his likeliness, God looks like us, facial features and such???

Is that why we are going to be judging angels, is because they don't wanna serve inferior beings, thus defying God??

That quote you have is a suggestion that this judgement of the world and angels that we will take part in (with Christ at the throne) is one possible speculation with regard to why Satan may have defied God. Recognize that this is a possible speculation and not supported by any other scripture.

In Genesis 1:26 it says; "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:"
In the ancient Hebrew it meant resemblence, or shadow.

As far as the 'judging of angels' in 1Cor.6:3, we are not given any details. It could have been an obscure belief that the Corinthians held (such as the baptism for the dead 1Cor.15:29) that Paul played upon to persuade them to keep the ordinances as he had delivered to them (1Cor.11:2).

It is imperative that we love God: Jesus said unto him; "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." (Mt.22:37)

How does one know if they love God?........Jesus tells us: "If ye love me, keep My commandments." (Jn.14:15)
"For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievious." (1Jn.5:3)

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins," (Heb.10:25-26)

We were created in God's image so we look like him. God looking like us would imply God being created in our image and I don't think any of us believe that.

So if "we look like him" does that have to mean that "resemblence" or "shadow" (thanks Stinker) must be a physical resemblence or shadow? Does God have a physical body for us to resemble? Or is the resemblence found elsewhere?

Am not sure if this is the right place to ask this but.. I've been a Christian for a long time and tithed for a long time, I've also heard all the sermons on tithing, but i still don't get it. If we're new testament christians, does tithing still apply to us. Don't get me wrong, I know there are good reasons to tithe, but are we in sin if we don't? All the sermons I've heard seem to support that we are, but I can't reconcile it biblically. I don't even see tithe mentioned in the new testament. I see where it says about they all gave each what they could. Where is the answer? And if tithing does carry over from the old why just the tithing law?

No its not Biblical. Your dead right. Its only been preached the last 100 years or so. (bar a few exception I believe) I can't give you much Bible on the subject because as you say there isn't any to give. Just give what you are "happy to give." If you give more than that, God doesn't want it. (There's a verse supporting that somewhere)

In reply to Dizzy

I thought those verses clearly showed that no woman can be called of God to be a bishop or a minister in a new testament church ???
