i totally understand where your coming from and where your at. I was once you. I too got involved with a Word of Faith church for a year early in my Christian walk. I too had prayed and thought God led me to that church. i too was very confused when i realized how messed up their doctrine was and i too was wondering the very things your wondering after i left that church.
The WOF church put me into a state of confusion and caused my faith to waver for a good while.
It is sad but we must realize that there are alot of 'churches' out there that are preaching lies and things that tickle the ears. There is alot of lies mixed with truth unless your in a pretty mainline denomination. Jesus told us the wheat and the tares would be mixed in together till he comes back.
What got me out of my crisis of faith was learning counterfeit from true. The BIBLE is God's word. You need to study the bible for yourself and really know the TRUTH in order to be able to KNOW the counterfeit when you see it. I didn't know the truth enough as a young Christian and therefore i couldnt see the counterfeit.
When it comes to counterfeit money for example, it is by studying REAL money and knowing every detail of REAL money that you can quickly spot a counterfeit bill.
Realize this...All mainline Christian churches teach the same basic doctrines. The doctrines that matter and are of utmost importance are AGREED upon. All Christian churches teach the basic gospel. They all believe in the Trinity. They all believe in the Virgin Birth. They all believe in Jesus death on the cross and his resurrection. They all believe in the atonement. They all believe in Grace. The things that matter the most are all believed by mainline churches. Yes they may disagree on some smaller things, but it doesnt change their SALVATION and that is what is most important.
Could i suggest to you not to get so caught up in the differences and to concentrate on the sameness. All Christian churches teach "Love God with all your heart and Love your neighbor as yourself". All Christian churches agree that the Holy Spirit lives in us once we become Christians. All Christian churches agree that the breaking of any of the 10 commandments is SIN.
i know of NO Christian church that will tell you it is ok to murder or abort babies or have pre-marital sex, or lie, or steal, or commit adultery, or blasphemy God. Those are the things we need to know much more than whether Calvinists or Arminians are more right. We could die a Calvinist in Jesus or and Arminian in Jesus and we will still go to heaven. God isnt going to send someone to hell because they believe in pre-destination or don't believe in pre-destination. Do you know what i mean?
It seems your concentrating on the wrong things. The translation of the bible you are reading doesn't matter. There words might be slightly different, but the overall meaning is the same. ALL translations tell you murder is wrong! ALL translations tell you Jesus died on the cross. ALL translations say Jesus is the Lamb of God who died for the sins of the world. Don't get caught up in things that don't matter.
Seek God and his righteousness! Seek God's kingdom! Seek God's truth! Follow Jesus..he IS THE WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIGHT!
Your personal relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit will guide you. Don't get sidetracked by non-essentials to the point of letting it draw you away from God...thats exactly what Satan wants. Remember, Satan is the author of confusion, not God. Satan disguises himself as an angel of light he doesnt always look like pure evil. Stay CLOSE to God, Flee from Satan.
