"It seems their notion of salvation is very much "works" based."
When you dig down through all the funny terminology, pageantry, sacramental language, and beauracracy, Catholics DO believe in salvation by faith in the shed Blood of Jesus, and DO state that works are NOT Salvific - but it's all pretty buried in their theological writings.
BUT the Catholic concept of salvation is a MIXTURE of what evangelicals would call "Salvation", AND "Sanctification" which is where the "Works" come into play. Evangelicals tend to see "Salvation" as something that "HAPPENS" at a point in time, and while Catholics see it more as a "Process of growing in grace".
Oh and Catholics don't "Speak Protestant" worth a nickle, but use some of the same terminology - with TOTALLY DIFFERENT meanings. Same goes for Evangelicals.
