  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Orthodox Church doesn't believe in all the Rapture stuff that Protestants believe in. You might be interested in reading "A Second Look at the Second Coming: Sorting Through the Speculations" by T. L. Frazier. It is published by Conciliar Press. You can either buy it from them, or there's a good chance that you can buy it from Amazon.com. It's a real eye-opener. I came from a Baptist backgound, so the Rapture was all I knew also.

We believe that the Church is the "nation" of the New Covenant.

Just to make sure that I'm clear, the Orthodox church holds a similar view as the Church of Christ denomination that the OT is pretty much passed away then and all the prophecies are now void?

Not void - fulfilled. Similar to what Jesus said - "I did not come to destroy the Law and the Prophets, but to fulfill them." Jesus also said that the Scriptures (meaning what we call the Old Testament) were about Him, and that's how we understand it. It was all about Him.

The above are all Orthodox links the one following is not but it is a good discussion on dispensationalism. William Cox is a Reformed person.
An Examination of Dispensationalism by William Cox
Are some of the places you can start to see that dispensationalism is a late doctrine, started by John Nelson Darby in the 1830's England. It gained a following by the publication of the Scofield Reference Bible at the beginning of the 20th ct, and gained a new set a followers in the early 70's among the Jesus people with The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey. None of the Protestant reformers knew anything like it, nor for that matter any Christian prior to Darby.
