Can someone explain to me exactly when fasting should be used and what does it do , etc.?
I'm ashamed to say that i'm really ignorant of this subject and would like some insight. thanks.
Please don't be ashamed to seek guidance when fasting. Your questions are actually a sign of spiritual growth.

Fasting is a much deeper topic than many people think. In general, fasting is a spiritual discipline that when coupled with thoughtful, introspective prayer will lead you to a much deeper and more meaningful relationship with our Lord. It is spiritual cleansing before you approach the throne of grace. You are preparing yourself before you go before the King of Kings.

Fasting & prayer, prayer and fasting, they go together. It can be for a day, a week, a month or more. Jesus fasted 40 days in the desert before He began His ministry.

The Holy Spirit will guide you in how long you should fast. If you think you can't hear the Holy Spirit in this then start with a one day fast.
Check with your Dr. if you have a medical condition before you begin.
Drink water. It is necessary for your health and if you don't you can hurt yourself. At least do not go more than a couple of days without water.

When I don't really know what kind of fast I'm supposed to follow, I choose something that I especially love to eat or do. (i.e. chocolate/watch TV). Or if the Holy Spirit is revealing an area in my character that has to go (i.e. anger or self righteousness...) I will seek Him for sensativity to see the situations coming before I fall into temptation.

You can skip a meal, or two or three. There is no regulation to individual fasts. You can fast with someone or alone. The one thing that Jesus said to do - and do it - is wash your face and try not to let anyone know you are fasting. Everything will come in the way of this but don't worry, just keep going.

Can you tell me what your understanding of fasting is so I know where to go with this? Have you looked it up in the Word to see when Jesus fasted?

Do you understand that the Holy Spirit is leading you to ask these questions? Be happy. This is a good thing for you. It means you have been seeking the Lord with a pure heart.

PM me if you need to talk privately.
