• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Godsgurl;
I can only offer you insight from my own experiences. I was about your age when I abandoned my Christian faith as well. Needless to say I fell into many behaviors and a lifestyle that haunts me still to this day. I started 'casual drinking', started experimenting with drugs to just begin.
Over a 16 year span I rejected God and Christ's teachings. Hate, rage, and anger started to brew inside of me. I found my casual drinking turning into a form of 'self medicating' or numbing myself to the pain I was feeling and experiencing. When I say pain, I'm referring to the every day challenges of life. No, it's not easy to be a Christian and takes guts. I found it easier to hate. Needless to say, I found myself trapped and in great despair.

It was at that point I reached out to God for help. I had a very truthful conversation with him and asked for his help. You see, I was an alcoholic, a drug addict, unemployed, penniless, and on the verge of losing EVERYTHING. I put my fate in God's hands, totally trusting him.

Now that the storm has passed, I see the power in prayer and how God views us. He views us in the same way that any loving father views his children and will help!!!

My biggest challenge now is dealing with my past. I hope to inspire you to keep the faith and not have to look back later in your life with regrets.

Being a Christian is not a smooth road by no means. We aren't promised an easy ride by God. Adversity only makes us stronger and reveals our true character. I can assure you if you place your total faith in God, he will not fail you.

Your brother in Christ,
Smilin

Praise the Lord!!!!, I have some scriptures for you to look at so that you can find comfort in your struggles as a believer:

James 1:2-4 "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."

I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Philipians 1:6 "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: "

And as you continue you to grow, here's 3 things that will help greatly:

Romans 10:17 "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God"

Ephesians 6:18 " Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;"

Matthew 22:37-39 "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

You'll be in my prayers!!!!
