  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have Aspergers and ocd and I constantly worry about my faith. Wierd images pop into my mind, I get paranoid and scared and I worry about everything and it is very hard. I have worried that Christianity isn't the right path and thoughts of Islam being a possible way, even though I don't believe a single thing the Qu'ran says. I have read it because I am afraid of islam and the Islamization od the west and what not and I pray evry night for peace and it won't come, I need help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

First of all I feel sorry that you have aspergers and OCD! My natural skepticism is raised when I think about current 'drugs' used oftentimes to treat such things. (But I shall refrain from going into depth about that.)

I have my share of paranoia, but I don't think it is raised to the levels yours is at. I would take comfort in Bible verses such as

Psalm 29:11
The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.

and

Psalm 85:8
I will listen to what God the LORD will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints-- but let them not return to folly.

Reading the Qu'ran in itself is not a sin (I am fairly sure, at least :L) however compare it and other books to however long you read the Bible. Daily Bible reading of books such as Romans in the NT are common for Christians with doubts. (Recently, on of my teachers at school is currently reading through Romans.) Especially chapters 5-11, which focus on assurance of salvation.

If you are searching for peace, additionally, know that truly Islam is not the answer. Peace for them generally requires their enemies to not fare so well. (COUGH) 911 (COUGH). Yes, yes, I realize those were radical Muslims. But image if a Christian had done that. The press against Christianity would be devastating. The fact remains that radical Islam is just that: it's still a product of Islam.

Hi Bob,

I'm sorry to hear you are struggling. Even when we are not sure if God is with us, He is, there is no escaping Him, which is mostly a good thing, huh? :) He knows your struggles and He will bring your through, just keep searching for Him. The Bible promises that when we seek, we find Him!

I don't believe you are alone when questioning if Christianity is the way or not, we all do it at some point, we all have to figure it out.

God is greater than Islam or anything they can do. He who is in you is greater than that in the world.

I'll pray for you.

peace -
Jake

Well you are certainly not alone! Fear & paranoia & worry are all things I have experienced and many others I'm sure.

After being a Christian a long time I have only relatively recently understood the peace and freedom from those things that we have in Jesus - but just need to take hold of.

Fill your mind with Jesus' teaching and with Christian music (if you aren't in to listening to praise music then you can find a Christian contemporary artist) it is SO HELPFUL I find :)!

Don't worry about the weird images - I was really helped by CS lewis (I think) who said that when he has thoughts that worry him, he just gives them to God rather than dwell on them.

The more you think and worry about the fearful things & the images - the weaker your faith will feel.

It's not easy but ....give praise to God for what you KNOW to be true. Literally what you do believe, however little it seems to be at times. Even if it's just that Jesus died & rose for you - or that Jesus loves you.

The more I focus and praise in this way -not in a desperate talking-myself-into-it-type way (which I used to find myself doing) - the more I understand it in a profound way.

But if I stop I still get negged out or overwhelmed by life or sometimes by old fears.

You know all the Positive thinking teaching there is out there for businesses and people in general Well it's a bit like that - but because of the profound & spiritual truth in the things you are telling yourself from the bible - it's much better and stronger :)

I hope I haven't wittered on too much - I have really been freed from strong fear & anxiety that I didn't realise I had my whole life because I was so used to it - even though I'd been a Christian; but - like Romans 12 v 2 says - I'm realising it really is possible to be transformed from that, by the renewing of my mind - i.e. by dwelling on the truths about God and who He is and what He promised and his love for you.!

p.s.

(It's going to be a good thing that you read the Qu'ran because it will help you understand things that many British Muslim people are being taught.)
