Has anyone had any experience with the Salvation Army?

When I was younger I had a friend who's family was heavily involved. They were a nice family, the salvation army moved them after a couple years in our city. From what I understand they are one of the few denominations that do not celebrate baptism or any form of communion. Clearly they do a lot of charity work globally.

The Army is a real Protestant, evangelical, denomination and is not just a charitable venture. The few members I've known seemed about the same as members of any Bible church.

Are there any particular issues you have in mind that might help us with our answers?
