  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you think abortion ceases to exist if all the medical clinics are shut down?

No, but then again, they won't be readily available either. Then people will have to take responsibility for their actions. Abortions would no longer be used as a means of birth control.

Abortions could then no longer be used in serious situations and would cause people to resort to a dangerous method.

There are enough methods that desperate people will try to do it, and I guarantee unsafe abortion rates will go up if you outlaw it.

Gun violence is illegal. It will continue to happen, but society is on the lookout against it and law enforcement will stop it whenever possible.

The same should be done for abortion.

Thats a bit of a dodgy comparison.

Except gun violence is not illegal. So analogy fail.

A lot of things wrong with these statements. Firstly, consider places where gun violence tends to be rather high: inner cities. Now consider how law enforcement doesn't always do it's job there, allowing gun crimes to occur by, well, not caring too much in many places. Society is far, far from "on the lookout." The same would not be done for abortion. What would you do? Place cameras in every alley, and when they start doing it in homes, put cameras in every home? Start rumors among the populace that their neighbors are engaging in illegal abortions probably everyday ("Look to your left. Look to your right.")

Foolish optimism is a bad thing.

Do you recall those things called hangers? Hangers will also continue to exist (unless we outlawed them!).
Or they could stop having sex if they don't want a baby. They should deal with the consequences if they make stupid choices. I would allow it for rape victims but everybody else should be held accountable for their actions. They shouldn't allow it to get to the point where they would use a hanger.

Guns are objects that will exist regardless, abortion is a service.

Simple solution: everyone folds their clothes. :p

If you want to reduce abortions, then you should be in favor of allowing women to have better access to contraception. It would reduce the abortion rate by quite a bit.

The world is much more complicated than your post makes it out to be. Everyone can "do it right" because we all have agency, but our agency to do things right is not always encouraged, or even considered the best course of action.

edit: and by "right" I mean what each person considers "right".

No, but I am familiar with the term "back alley abortion."

Backyard, back alley-same deal and that is exactly what will happen If you outlaw legal abortions. I am not pro-abortion but I am pro-choice.

It is not the "good christian population" that keeps the clinics running, alot of it is the drug addicted prostitutes whose pimps need em back out there earning before dark. They are not using it for "birth control"-they are victims as well. Then there are those who were raped, victims of incest and those who are mentally unstable and and and..

it is not for me to tell those women they have to go through 9mo of PG, labor and then have a child they did not want...It's their lives and they will deal with what ever consequeces are a result...

If you want to stop abortion, raise your son's....and daughters so that they don't have unprotected sex, patronize prostitution-just look here at CF how many "christian" men are addicted to porn...It still takes two and no woman who is visiting an abortion clinic is doing so unless she was somehow victimized by a member of the male sex..

and in no way can that be compared to gun-control which is expressly dealt with in the consitution which was drafted by "christian" men...Not even apples and oranges..not even two fruits.

Like I said, both will continue to happen. Doesn't mean you can't make it illegal.
As for enforcement, I'd prefer to see assistance and importance on pregnancy and motherhood, rather than deterrence placed on abortion, but of course, these are all hypotheticals anyhow.

Thats a bit of a dodgy comparison.
Of course, it's not completely fair to compare the two, and I apologize for my insensitivity, as they are very different sorts of situations.

My point, is that acts can be made illegal or have restrictions put on them. Like gun violence for example, sometimes permissible, but for the most part, a criminal act.

You stated that gun violence is illegal and abortion should be the same. Gun violence is not illegal. In fact we authorize entire segments of our population to use gun violence where they deem necessary. So unless you are talking about giving doctors medals for saving the futures of women, I do not see how your analogy works.
