What are your feelings on sharing bibles in sermons?

My old church said I couldn't share with the person sitting next to me but needed my own. ;)

:amen:

HI,

Well, for me, when ever we are reading from the Scriptures and I notice the person next to me doesn't have a copy, I always try to hold it towards them so that they can read if they want. That way, I feel, it's the Holy Spirit that will have it read or not.

However, if you are a born again believer, I can't seem to understand why you wouldn't have your own copy.

God bless you.
IN Christ, Ted

God bless you.

I don't see an issue with sharing, I would think better to share then not have at all. For instance my wife is in the choir and some times the pastor has started b4 she gets back to her seat, since I have my bible already open we share it. We both have our own bibles to use for personal reading and studying.

Well, who is the authority on the matter? Baptist accept the Holy Scripture as the final authority on all disputes.

I'm not a Baptist but figured I could reply to this still. I was going to a Methodist church that was shut down at the end of last year due to issues. Really liked that church and the conference moved my pastor to another methodist church nearby. It has a lot of members but they don't have pews, a first for me, and so they don't have hymnals or bibles or anything there. I bring my own anyway but I'm used to the church having bibles provided.

I don't see an issue with sharing, but maybe they think it would disrupt the service if people are overlooking the shoulders or something, no idea.

This reminds me of my sister-in-law. One year we visited Chicago for several days, ending on a Sunday. As we were packing our luggage she barged into my room, which I had shared with her son, my nephew. She walked over to the chest and found a Gideon Bible. She started to walk out with it and I asked her what she was doing. She said that she had forgotten her Bible at home and needed this Bible for church. I assured her that the church had pew Bibles and I would be more than happy to share mine with her. When we got to the church there were pew Bibles for her to use. Afterward she walked up to an usher and thrust the Gideon Bible into his hands, asking him to return it to the hotel for her. Needless to say, he was really perplexed. BTW, she is a kleptomaniac.

I was a member of a Baptist church for many years before I moved to the area I live in now. Share the Bible heck just ask and the church would give you one! But yes if you sit next to me slide on over and we can read the Bible together!!!
