  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have the Siddur Sim Shalom for Weekdays but I'd think a Messianic prayer book would be more suitable for your needs.
I just purchased the Messianic Siddur by Rabbi Dr. John Fischer. Hopefully it's good...

I'm not familiar with it, but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I don't think any are "bad." :D
I laughed at what I put...I am sure it is good.

Anyways, not that the Siddur is out of the way...I still have all that money for books. Anyone want to jump-start the recommendations? Anyone have any "you've got to read this!" type books?

It's the one we use at our shul. It is good. Dr. Fischer is a brilliant man. His lectures are amazing.
Perfect. Have you read any of his books? If so, recommend any? He seems to have an extensive and impressive educational resume.

Now might be a good time to look into Stern's Jewish New Testament Commentary.

Anything by Dr. Fischer is worth the read. He's very scholarly.
Here's a link to his ministry with lots of good stuff.
Menorah Ministries, Est. 1984 by Rabbi Dr. John Fischer and Dr. Patrice Fischer
I will have to check out some of his stuff. So far on my list of ordered books (please tell me if you have read/own any):

Restoration: Returning the Torah of God to the Disciples of Jesus by D. Thomas Lancaster
Should Christians be Torah Observant by Carmen Welker
Our Father Abraham: Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith by Marvin R. Wilson
...and I also got David Stern's New Testament Commentary.

Let me know some more since I'm only half way through my gift card.

Dan Lancaster is good. I haven't read the one you picked out though.

Lancaster wrote Restoration, Holy Cow and King of the Jews but these may be available through FFoZ only, but you can check Amazon.
Another one from FFoZ that is good is Boundry Stones (I think the author's last name is Irby, not sure).
I'm sorry, I'm not much help. I don't really read outside of the Bible and online articles much.....
For a book that's just for an excellent read with a bit of history thrown in, try Leon Uris' Exodus. It's a novel based on facts of the birth of the State of Israel. You'll remember the characters for a lifetime like Moshe Dayan, David Ben Gurion (2 of the real people involved). If you've seen the movie, don't let it dissuade you, it was terrible, you won't be able to put the book down.

You recommend any specific book by Lancaster?

My Pa rather likes 'Resoration' however does feel that he undoes himself a number of times. I've never read it but it's suppose to be good and a must read. :D

Have you ever come across 'Feasts of the Lord' by Kevin Howard and Marvin Rosenthal? That's pretty good for starters.

I thought 'Holy Cow' was written by Hope Egan? Maybe we're speaking of two different books by the same title?

I'm more likely in error? I thought it was Lancaster (was using memory which always can be faulty).

DT Lancaster wrote some commentary in the book Holy Cow....and Aaron Eby wrote Boundry Stones.

Thank you for the correction on Eby's name!! Wonderful book though!!
And for solving the mystery of Holy Cow and Lancaster!!

Both of these gentleman have a great wealth of knowledge. Restoration (by Mr Lancaster) was one of the first books my husband read when being very new to the "messy" movement....and he would hand it out to everyone who inquired about it.
We, (my family) have personally been blessed to have been taught by these two men over the last few years.
