  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am concerned about not looking pious, but also about adhering to protocol.

There is a Messianic congregation I am interested in in the Bridgeton, MO area. It's a little way from home, but based on their webiste, I think this congregation could be of considerable help to me. There is a good article regarding antinomianism on it which reflects my concerns about Traditional Christianity. One major hurdle I also face is that I work in the hospitality industry, and the time from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday are among the busiest of times. I am looking to make a change (difficult considering the current economic situation in the United States), hopefully to another industry in which I can work Monday through Friday days....

Where did the idea of a kippah being respectful come from? If it is not commanded in the torah, is there a basis for its wearing? I guess I am wondering about the significance of the kippah.

The series of teachings I suggested for you, Traditions, covers the kippot, the talliot, etc.

Decided to add: We got Yonah posting now, he's full of good information!

I have not gotten that far in the Traditions teaching, otherwise I would have known. I just finished the teaching on Shabbat.

No, no more Hebrew with Yonah. It didn't take off like I'd hoped. I'll work on the curriculum in the future and develop it, but I won't be able to join the study to this site.

I am sorry to hear that, yonah. I managed to get a good download of the lesson01.zip file and I was looking forward to giving it a "go".

Count me among your admirers. You add a great deal to this forum. I sit up and take notice when your name appears to the right of a thread...

We are a very blessed forum. We not only have Yonah, we also have ChavaK and DenaX, (I hope I haven't forgotten anyone? poor memory) that come by and visit their younger brethren from time to time. I always learn something whenever they stop in. Our time with them is precious.

You have been a blessing as well, yedida. You are the first poster I came into contact with on this forum and you have been most welcoming and supportive. That means a great deal...

I believe the New Testament gave Gentiles clearance to not uphold Circumcision.
Some interpret that gentiles have no need to be Kosher but it is so debated some Christians do so anyway like seventh day Adventists. Peter's vision is about the only thing that I think excuses being kosher but that has VARIOUS interpretations mostly people think it just means allowing gentiles to join the church.

As for Jews I do think we should uphold circumcision and i try to be more Kosher though my wife is not jewish.

I am ashamedly not very kosher when it comes to the torah and i reject talmudic health laws entirely (cheese on that burger!)

I've stated this before but I will again. I think circumcision should be as baptism, an act of obedience. After all, while Abraham was still a Gentile, he had his whole household circumcised. If someone wanted to be attached to his house they were circumcised. (As Gentiles, are we not now the children of Abraham by faith?) Israelites didn't come to be until Jacob had his name changed, yet they had been circumcising their males for a long time.
Just my 2cents worth of reasoning.

I don't think it has anything to with either of those two things. You could wear sweatpants sitting in a circle beating drums and still wear kippot. ^_^

Kashrut is not a Talmudic health law. :)

Would you consider private teaching through e-mail correspondence or something? I'm starting seminary this fall and would love to develop on my Hebrew.

I'd be glad to help you through the forum under Classical Hebrew. I can't put any more links to my website as per my agreement with the administration of Christian Forums, but I can put things temporarily into my dropbox and invite you to download them as needed (there will not be permanent links, of course). Let me know what you're interested in working through, and I'll work with you.

Good luck!

!!בהצלחה
