  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've had this OCD for awhile, and I was wondering if you think it's ok to take medicine for it as long as I don't completely rely on it?

I was thinking bad thoughts against it with my bad thought OCD, and also not really wanting to otherwise.

2 people are for it and talked about it to me, and now I kept thinking, and maybe want to.

the notion that taking medication is bad because it means you dont' have faith is a crock. many mentally related issues are due to chemical imbalances. if a pill balances those chemicals out, then to not take them because you are "waiting for you miracle that you've already claimed" then you are only fooling yourself.

yes God can heal anything, but to let an issue linger on unhindered because you think medical treatment is a hinderance to faith then some serious bible study needs to happen.

/rant off. sorry, wasn't aiming that at you lol but at the WoF televangelist movement which is the source of this heretical doctine and stuff. but seriously, if taking a medication fixes the issue, why would you not? if you had cancer would you skip treatment waiting for a miracle or would you go to treatment and pray that you are healed wether by medicine or miracle?

I was thinking really bad scary thoughts about it from my OCD D:. I don't like to explain my OCD too much right now, but it got really bad. Sorry I didn't explain my OCD thoughts too much. I think it'd be good for help if I have a chemical imbalance.
I guess it's also because I used to kind of rely on anxiety pills, and I don't like that memory.

I understand what you're saying, God could work both ways. So any way. I will most likely go to the doctor and continue to pray about it. Though I feel a lot better today.. thinking about medicine just incase my thoughts start bothering me really badly again.

I haven't gone to a doctor for OCD or OCD medicine yet.

Thanks.

i sounded a bit harsh there. sorry about that. just check out the drug and make sure its safe:)

It's ok. I was also thinking somethings and said against medicine before. I do think it'd be fine to take medicine now though. But I was really scared of the OCD thoughts and stuff.

As a fellow OCD sufferer I know where you're coming from. Its not Christians with me, its My parents, both have an NHS background and both are telling me mental health treatment is bad and I'm imagining my illness.

Christian ministry can often be unhelpful in the treatment of OCD, or indeed any problem along these lines, as preachers often say stuff like:

1: Have more Faith and God will heal you
2: Read more Bible and God will heal you
3: Do more good works and God will heal you
4: Give more financially and God will heal you.

The thing is, it doesn't work that way. Yes, God can heal miraculously, but He can also heal through medicine and support. I'd say this, if God hasn't healed you, perhaps He wants you to get healing through medicine.

I am taking tablets for my OCD and it helps. I am also receiving Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and that helps as well. Prayer also helps.
