• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When OCD takes on other forms, can it make you think that you have done something (not spoken) that you really haven't? Like, did I run that redlight? Over the summer I used to have this fear, when I would look in my review mirror (taking my eyes off the road infront of me for a second). I was always afraid that I had hit someone with a car & I would have to drive back & look to make sure I didn't. My OCD is changing to things like that. I believe.

Yes that is very typical OCD. Have you got on med's yet Caty? I'm hoping you have cos you seemed to be stuck on this OCD which I know the mental anguish it causes and the reassurence ritual's that are preformed are coming here and asking, do any of ya'll experience this? Just try to not feed it and I'll be praying for you!

Caty,
"Starting over" isn't what you need to do. Pressing on is.
As far saying anything at all whether it's due to meds, or OCD.... well you already know logically that God wouldn't hold those things to your account. But the OCD wants to keep you in an anxious "checking mode." What you need to do is refuse to cooperate with it.
You have a disorder and when that anxiety arises you have to look at it in a very clinical manner. "OK... this feels horribly distressing but that's only because my brain is misfiring. I'm not going to ruminate about it. Then focus on all those practical measures that we talked about before. "Instead of ruminating about this... I guess I'll go out for a run."
Still Praying,
Mitzi

Caty,

Sometimes we feel unclean from all the things that have run across our mind. Despite how we feel, it doesn't change the fact that Christ understands us and that He still loves us regardless. Look at the disciples. They learned as they went. Every time they misunderstood something Jesus had patience with them and they got stronger the more they stayed with Him and followed Him. It's easier to start over but that doesn't mean that we won't ever make a mistake or ever feel guilt again. As Mitzi said, we need to continue to move forward.

Sometimes when I'm feeling overwhelmed by everything I just talk with God. I tell Him what's bothering me, not to complain, but just to let Him know how I feel. I tell Him my fears and I ask that He continue to guide and uplift me. Praying isn't just asking for things, you can just have a talk with God too. He loves to hear from us. These thoughts can bring me down sometimes and sometimes going to God and releasing the pain helps. I pray for you, and this whole forum, almost everyday because I know how it feels and we need to continue to lift one another up. The thoughts haven't been as bad as they first started off, but I still have them and are working on the way I respond to them. When they come in full blast, I just sit in a calm manner and remind myself that it is simply a storm and Christ is right there and it will past in a minute. Hope you are feeling better.

Christ will never leave you. Read this encouraging scripture:

Mathew 12

10 And behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

Look how compassionate our Lord is to the man with the disability. And how He is concerned for us when we fall. We might fall once today, twice tomorrow, but regardless, the Lord is still there with us, compassionate as always. =] Praying
