• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It is an anxiety based disorder. We do the compulsive things to take away our anxietys and other feelings about something or maybe more than 1 thing. I believe it is a chemical imbalance. I take medicine for it and it is real quiet now. Praise the Lord. I am praying for you.

It has also to do with personality. I know I have an obsessive mind. I have a tendency to analyze things to death. That makes it harder to see the over all picture, so I keep focusing on the detail a lot more than the big picture. Also perfectionism, and definetly fear and anxiety of the consequences of things if I dont do or say certain things. I hope this helps a little. Thanks.

I question why!
One of my biggest questions is why doesn't God take away our OCD so that we may love him with our feelings? Or at least take away the religious obsessions? True love is present only where fear is not, and I wonder why God does not allow us the freedom to love.
The only reason I can think of is that this fear continues driving us to Jesus. But then, why not allow us the comfort of the 'feeling' that our sins are forgiven?

Who knows. But we should be like Job, who said: "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him".

very insightful. the great thing is that God knows we are genuine, but i can't help but worry like you talk about where the fear drives it. i have to think back when i became saved before i had ocd; it's comforting, there was not this kind fear, just conviction and God's calling for Jesus! it was and is grace!!!
