Whatever YOU want!

At Christmas my mother-in-law informed me that the 40's decade is a time when no one has expectations of you like they did before. This is your time to do and be what you want to do and be.

I don't mean leave your family or anything crazy like that. What I mean is no one is telling you what to study in college. Your family is probably already started and established as is your career. Now, you get to make the decisions about how to move forward with your life. Maybe this is the decade when you'll take that great trip you've always wanted to, or learn the instrument that you never got around to. Or, maybe even move and/or change careers. Because it's about what you want to do for you and your family. Your parents and your peers should know you are your own person by now. And if they don't, this is the decade when you get to tell them.

I turned 40 last January. Already I have returned to college and finished - because I wanted to and it was good for my family. Until now I've focused on raising my children. Now I get to start the career I've always wanted and move several states south (something else I've always wanted to do).

Make the most of being 40. It's better than being 41. But then, 41 is better than 42. And for me, 42 was better than 43. I just feel like I've aged a lot during the past year. Having said that, I do have a medical condition which came on during the last year, so that could explain why I have aged. Or maybe it's just inevitable.

...just kidding. I'm happy to be a part of the fabulous 40s. Having 2 boys under 3 makes me feel a lot younger...or older, I can't decide which.

I'm 47 years old and had a two year old at age 45! People told me it would keep me young. Uh...well....
