• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

show me in the Bible where it says that slaves deserved freedom and the right to vote and an education?

Show me in the Bible where it said that women deserved the right to vote.

In both cases, the Bible was used to DENY these people their civil rights.
The bible can be used incorrectly and out of context to try to carry out ungodly things. However, if used correctly you can clearly see the rights of both slaves and women.

The bible isn't going to address this topics especifially but it will in principel.

Most of the Bible's teachings about women are based upon the foundation laid in Genesis. It doesn't matter whether we interpret the creation story in Genesis literally or figuratively; God's intentions for men and women are spelled out clearly. God created the woman as a "helper" for the man:
The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." (NIV, Genesis 2:18)
However, being a "helper" does not imply that the woman was inferior or subservient to the man; the same Hebrew word, `ezer, translated as "helper," is used to describe God, Himself, in Psalms 33:20, 70:5, 115:9-11. In fact, God created both men and women in His own image and made them equal custodians of all His creation:
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." (NRSV, Genesis 2:27-28)
When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man." (NIV, Genesis 5:1-2)

You can clearly see the equality between both men and women through different aspects of the bible.

Now onto slavery...
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. (NIV, Galatians 3:26-29)

Slavery in biblical times was different than what it is now. Before people used to sumbit themselves to be able to eat something since they didn't have any means of support. But the way we recognize slavery in the US was a prison that people were forced into which is unbiblical since we are all equal under God.

Biblical slavery was not the same as our definition of Slavery. Well not in all cases.

Yes there where slaves like we think of them, such as in Egypt before Gods people were led out of thiere into their new nation.

But, they also refered to workers as "slaves". They did not have an advanced economy such as ours, so much of the trade was done through barter. Those who were not land owners had to have a place to live and eat. So they worked in exchange for these things. When the bible says "slave". You have to really look at the full context.

By legislating biblical morality aren't we forcing nonbelievers to act like Christians?
Is that a bad thing? :p

The thing is, no matter what we legislate we'll be 'forcing' some sort of view onto others, why not a biblical one?
But then again doesn't evil flourish when good men do nothing?
Exactly!
