  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question: Tebula, where is that found???

I read that in the conversion of a Gentile to Judaism (1st century and before times) one of the things a Gentile would do was be baptized or in the Hebrew Tebula (I think).

This was preceeded by circumcision and followed by a sacrafice. Are there any Hebrew Scriptures / text that document this?

I appreciate any and all comments or suggestions as to where to look to find this.

Peace be with you..............

Converts to Judaism had to study for a period of time at the very least a year, appear before the Rabbinical court and accept the Mitzvot. Then they immersed in a "mikveh" similar to that of baptism in that it was smybolic of a new birth, you would go in the way you are now, and come out a Jew and get a Jewish name, you would be born again. Then of cource theres Bris Milliah the covenant of circumcision and the sacrifice, in modern times the sacrifice is often giving to charity etc.

Il look into some verses for you, I know its fully documented in the Talmud. But the evidence of Baptism mentioned in the NT is proof at least, it was a common practise at the time.

Shalom and G-d bless

I believe the word you are looking for is Teshuvah. Teshuvah is to turn around... or loosely interpretted: repent. A Mikvah (immersion in water) is accompanied with Teshuvah... taking a Mikvah is the outward expression of the repentance (turning around... or turning back to Torah).

Shalom,

On one of the little websites I designed (don't laugh, this is some of my worst designs) you can see more about Teshuvah...

just click on the "return" button on the left side of the page to see more.

Thanks for all the responses, they have been a HUGE help.

I did a search on Mikvah and Teshuvah (please pardon my "goi"ness with using the word Tebula) and found some good stuff relating to the background of where what we now call "baptizm" came from.

Does anyone know in the Talmud where this is spoken of?

Thanks again for all your responses.

May He give you His peace.................
