In my church, everyonce in a while one of the members holds up their left hand (i think) what does this mean. I have a guess so i will throw it out here. Is it what people do to tell others they feel Gods presence? Because for the most part it is around this times that i do.

Thank you

i've seen some people do that in my church at times too adn i think it's something like what you said or just an acknowledgement that they are thankful for what God has done for them. like the lady that sits in front of me, especially when the pastor will say something about how if we're saved we know we have a place reserved for us in heaven, she'll raise her hand and say "yes God, amen!" i think it's an aknowledgement thing!!! hope this helped!!

Hello James! Yes, what Kimber said is true. This is an acknowledgement or agreement with what was said. Sometimes people will raise their hand signifying, reaching toward heaven to receive the Word. It's a heart thing and really very personal. Some people are not comfortable with it and that's okay, some of us are just more expressive of the overflowing joy in our hearts. That's why some people will shout. I used to not understand but now I do and I think it's wonderful WHEN it comes from the heart! If you can yell and holler for a football team why in the world should we be silent when we are talking about our precious SAVIOR, JESUS??? :D

Some Bible quotes about lifting your hands. ;)

PS 28:2 Hear my cry for mercy
as I call to you for help,
as I lift up my hands
toward your Most Holy Place.

PS 63:4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.

PS 119:48 I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love,
and I meditate on your decrees.

PS 134:2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary
and praise the LORD.

LA 2:19 Arise, cry out in the night,
as the watches of the night begin;
pour out your heart like water
in the presence of the Lord.
Lift up your hands to him
for the lives of your children,
who faint from hunger
at the head of every street.

LA 3:41 Let us lift up our hearts and our hands
to God in heaven, and say:

1TI 2:8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
