• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

A possible reason why you feel like this now, could be that your body is so used to feeling that pain, it has now become numb.

Is it normal to get to a place when you cut but just don't feel it anymore. I don't really remember much about when I first started but I know that it used to hurt alot but now I seem to do more damage to myself but not feel it...Can anyone explain to me why that is?

To explain what both Soulwings and I said before, its very similar to using say for example a pack of playing cards over and over again, the cards become thinner till they actually start to rip when your playing cards. The same with cutting the more you cut the weaker and less chance of your skin growing back. You also become so used to the same pain, it doesn't affect you like it once did. Like Soulwings said, because your used to the pain, the cutting doesn't hurt, but you are in a lot more danger.

I think your tolerance to pain has increased, like Im-Revived said.

:hug:s Please try and be careful. If you can't feel yourself hurting, you'll have to watch and make sure that you don't go too far.

Your body, wrist im guessing, is a reasonably sensitive place, but as you cut your body will first release endorphins which make you feel better, but also just tone down the sensitivity there so that it doesnt hurt as much. I know thats the same with me, my right arm doesnt hurt, my left is still sensitive. I think i can also explain the cutting on an old scar, it was the same with me, i think you, in cutting into yourself your actually destroying the sensitive....what do you call em...like the things under your skin that feel the pain, or whatever.

Be strong girls!!! In him you can conquer all!! :D

I think what I'm revived said makes a lot of sense. That skin has already been broken probably lots before. You body may be adapted and the skin may be loosening. As for the cramping perhaps too deep or too near a nerve. BE CAREFUL! I'm worried for you. Do you have a theapist or counselor you can talk to about this. Stay safe...and remember Jesus is the ultimate healer of botht the physical and emotional wounds.

I've never experienced that feeling, where your whole arm cramps up. Sometimes my whole arm will go numb though.
I've never felt anything when I cut. It never hurt at all, even when I first started. So I guess it's normal that you dont feel it anymore?
