Question for those of you who keep journals here

First of all, I'm not sure I'm putting this post in the right place, so if a moderator feels that it should be elsewhere, feel free to move it. I hope this is the right place, though.

So, this is mostly to those of you who keep journals on this site - under "Christian Journals". Does it happen that you get some kind of response from others on what you write? Do people send you PM's with encouragement or so?

I'm kind of interested in starting a journal, but I'm not sure, so it would be nice to hear from existing journal writers!

I write/wrote in mine for myself.
I did find out right away that other people do read them.
I have been PMed or repped on occasion for what I put in there.
People thanking me for something that touched them that day.
I just tried ot be led by God as to what to put in my journal.
My journal was mainly scripiture oriented or other Christian content.

I started one only a few days ago but I did get one response.

But whether or not you get immediately or a lot of response should not discourage you from starting and keeping a journal. Many people might read it (since it is in the public area) but might not want to respond ... because you are putting your private thoughts out there and some might have the feeling they would intrude or make you self-conscious (I am not sure whether this is the word I am looking for).

Hello,

My journal for me serves a few purposes. One of the purposes is prayer. It is also a diary, for writing down what has happened that day, what I have learned. It is also a place for writing my feelings. I like to use it also to record the devotionals I have read and put down my thoughts about how they apply to me. I record responses to prayer here also.

I've sometimes had comments from people through PM, and it is always encouraging to see a number of people have read my journal because it helps me to feel part of a community here. One person has PM'd me a fair amount and I have PM'ed this person too. We have prayed for each other over what we have written in our journals and I think it has been very edifying for each of us.

Thank you for the replies! It's nice to hear about your experiences.

Carmi - yes, I know I shouldn't be discouraged if I don't get responses at once. I also don't think I will be, but at least it's good to hear that people actually do read each other's journals here and such. I guess it also takes some time to "get to know" someone through a journal, so I wouldn't PM someone the first time I read their entries myself. Don't expect others to do that with me at once either :)

So...I think I'll start one as well, but it might have to wait until tomorrow, since there is not much to write about for me right now.

Whenever you feel ready and comfortable, send me a pm with the name of your journal. In the meantime I will look out for your name in the journal section.

Interesting question. I did get reputation points and a nice comment in a private message from someone once that wanted to encourage me.

I haven't been giving people private messages for cf diary entries because the first time that I did send a PM, I received an unfavorable response. But your question made me realize that I probably shouldn't let that keep me from encouraging others since there are so many who would enjoy that. There are tons of online diary web sites that allow comments on the entries of the diary posts. So most people do appreciate feedback on a publically posted online diary!
