Pharmaceutical companies make BIG BUCKS from vaccines... So why WOULD they decide to no longer give it? Think about the millions of babies born each year- the millions of Hep B vaccines given (and that's just ONE vac ;))... just think of the money pouring in from that ONE vax?

I could go on, but when it comes to pharmaceutical companies, I tend to be a bit of a conspiracy theorist :sorry:

What I don't get is why they say that the Hep B is the one they want newborns to have if it's not necessary? $$$?

Well, I think the hope is that if the whole population is vaxed against Hep B it will eventually die out - like Small Pox. My personal feeling is that, yes, people should do their best to avoid spreading Hep B and hopefully eliminate the disease all together. So, get the vax...OR don't use needle drugs and/or have sex with people of unknown sexual history. Either way, I think it should be up to the person. I won't make this call for my kid.

Hep B is a sexual transmitted disease-- transmitted exactly the same way as HIV. It is not the only sexually transmitted disease treated for at birth. In almost all states, if not all, an HIV test is now required for mom before birth and if refused they test the baby... without consent. They also have that eye goop given to newborns in case of chylamidia (STD)... or was it gonorrhea.... anyway I have my lines crossed but they do treat for more than one STD at birth because some might be at risk and so they compensate for that by treating everyone. (roll eyes)
