  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why are Chrstians so close-minded and hate filled. I want so bad to be a Christian again but the people are so hatful and close-minded about everything, why would anyone want to be in a religion that spreads so much hate toward other people. When Christians are supposed to love everyone?

how are we Christ like if we plant bombs, kill, chanting hateful remarks and tell people there going to hell for loving someone...and doing this all under Jesus's name, Do you think if he was here today that he would be standing there with you in the frunt of the picket line screaming "I HATE ****!, BURN IN HELL!" ....No and do you know why?

Jesus loved everyone and we are support to be in his image.. Right? So then why are people so quick to judge someone for who they are?
And you can say that not all Christians are like that, that’s true but a high amount of them are. But those are the Christians that make this religion an embarrassment to be apart of.

please give me feed back Pro and aginst what has been said

i wish i could give you an answer, but i can't. i think all we can do is be apologetic for the mistakes of our fellow believers, admit that we have made our own mistakes, and just give you something to think about when it comes to coming back to the faith.

if i might say anything here though.

it seems odd how at times, when someone leaves a dogmatic belief system they had all set up themselves, they fall into dogmatic disbelief. they believe Christianity is all the bad things they've seen, experienced. i find it logically hard to make such a statement, because God is not us. sure we are to se the example, but just as every Christian, or ex-Christian used to believe is, that we are imperfect, so why judge God, or even Christianity itself based upon actions of the believers. i remember getting upset at the faith because of "hypocrites." i think when one really thinks about that tho, we start to see we are just as hypocritical as them, thus no right to complain anymore. i think it's bad to judge God based on bad experiences. is it easy to do? for sure. i think we all have done it from time to time. but it doesn't mean it holds any merit.

so i think, in my opinion, if one loses their dogmatic disbelief, they will begin to start to come back to the faith. until then, it's just going to be tug and war of asking for something else from the dogmatic system you once held yourself to, and only getting back the very same dogmatic stuff that you reject thus either pushing you farther away and doing no good.

just my 2 cents.

I used to be very embarassed about being a christian. I lived in a country where chritians were infamous for being crusaders, praying to idoles, being opressive missionaries, giving services in exchange for joining the faith, robbing people of their true identity and calling, causing people to break the laws of the torah. Thus a "christian" became synonimous with "illogical, dangerous, stuped". Miss education helped to push the steriotypes even farther. Well, at one point I felt I really didn't want to be called part of these people who gave christianity that bad name. Then my father pointed out to me, (though I only understood this year later) that Jesus has to endure all these people, and he even forgives them. So if He can, I can. Besides, I'm guilty of things too.

I don't think you will like these bords. At least not this section. You will continue finding people being hatefull and unkind here. Even hatefull things comming from people like me. Likes like likes, and people who like an emotional debate of a certain type attract each other and meet somewhere.

Why are people hatefull and arogant? Because it's emotionally fun and easy at the beginning. It's nice to feel you are right. It is nice to watch people sudenly "realize" that what you are saying all along is correct. That is actually part of the reason I'm naturally atracted to this bord. (The other part of the reason is more positive)

I don't know how this would be accomplished when the "terrorists" are a World Power and claim to be freedom fighters. But I guess that's another thread altogether.;)

Not all the terrorists are "a World Power." Terrorists come in all colors, of all nationalities, and of all religions.

Some terrorists are Islamic. Some terrorists are Christian.
Some kind people are Islamic. Some kind people are Christian.

Some terrorists are from Saudi Arabia or other predominantly Muslim nations.
Some terrorists are from America and other predominantly Christian nations.
Some terrorists come from nations neither predominantly Muslim nor Christian.

I meant no one specifically, but, just my personal opinion, without naming any names bush cheney rumsfeld , there are some world leaders I would include in the list of those who are terrorists and belong in prison. Not out of anger, however--those who have lead lives of spiritual poverty deserve our pity and still deserve our love. But they need to be seperated from society. To protect the children, and us.

http://www.whosoever.org/

I believe in tolerance and equality. In another post, I even clarified that the title of my sermon, "A Brotherhood of Man," is a quote from a John Lennon song. My topic is actually broader, including brothers and sisters, man and woman.

I sympathize with the feelings expressed in the intro page, and I encourage the attitude that "Whosoever Will, May Come." I fully accept my non-traditional brothers and sisters on this Earth. (Heck, I even accept traditional people, although I don't always agree with them.)

That being said, let me disagree with the opening statement of the entry page to that website, which reads :

"The United States, as a nation, does not possess any of the qualities of blessedness that Jesus spells out. "

The United States, as a nation, does indeed possess those qualities. There are people in the United States who live in poverty. There are people in the United States who reach out to others with love and generousity.

There are also people in the United States who don't, notably certain corrupt leaders. This is the same all over, not just in America.

Now, perhaps I fall short. Perhaps I don't possess any of those qualities Jesus spelled out. Perhaps I'm too rich and selfish to count myself among those who possess those qualities. But there are other people who are not.

We are a rich nation, where the meek, the hungry and the peacemakers are marginalized

The meek, the hungry and the peacemakers are no less Americans then those who oppress. When you say "we are a rich nation," you include the marginalized ones, unless you're only talking about meek foreigners. When you say "The United States, as a nation," that includes those who are marginalized.

not only in society at large, but within the nation's churches, as well.

The nation's churches? There are a lot of churches in America--Roman Catholic, Baptist, Unitarian Universalist, The United Church of Christ. When you say "the nation's churches," that's a lot of churches. I wouldn't make so broad and sweeping a statement.

We are not God's chosen nation --

I think they all are.

we are a nation forsaken by God --

Somewhere, there is a gentle, sweet old lady. She has weakness in her bones, pains from her artheritis. Sometime soon, she is going to have to decide whether she is going to buy prescription medicines this month, or food. She may be weak, she may be poor in wealth, but I do not believe for a minute that just because she lives in Ohio, New Jersey or Conneticut, or that just because she is suffering, that it is because she lives in a nation which is forsaken by God. Rather, it's those who have forsaken God who lead her to her condition--God forsakes no one.

-- a nation that has forgotten that to be truly blessed is to be humble and meek.

The author of that page may accuse me of forgetting that to be truly blesses is to be humble and meek. The author doesn't know me, but he may accuse me of that. I can take it.

But I wish he wouldn't accuse other, less fortunate of my nation, a nation which I love despite those who are lacking in certain levels of compassion, because I know there is goodness and kindness to be found here, good people, caring people, and people in need as well.

Respectfully, I don't think it's necessary to say that the nation is bad ,when you really mean that there are some bad people, even bad policies and bad decision makers, in the nation.

America is a beautiful place with beautiful people. So are many other places in the world. There is a donut surrounding that spiritual hole you are pointing out. I believe we do need to address the problems expressed in these sentiments, but we shouldn't attribute them sweepingly to "America," but to the individuals within America who are oppressing others.

Respectfully,
Charlie

I don't buy it. Whether the "freedom fighter" is Saudi, Iraqi, Irish, British, American, Australian or fill-in-the-nationality.

When innocent people die, there is no freedom, but tragedy. You do not fight for freedom by killing innocent people.

The brother of my brother-in-law and a family friend were killed on September 11. In what way did those two people take away any person's freedom? Did the children in a certain office building threaten Timothy McVeigh's freedom?

They are not freedom fighters. They are living in spiritual poverty. American, Saudi, whatever nationality. If they commit acts of violence indescriminant of innocent life, they are no more freedom fighters than a brutal rapist is a sexual liberator.

(I digress from the topic but..)

Chrysalis Kat, I can hug you!

I have so many lists of universalist passages and not one of them has this, from your signature:

Genesis 9:16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."

Not only is this going on my list, but if I put my list in Bible-canon order, it tops the list, it's the earliest universalist passage of Genesis I have.

Christians can be the worst stinkers in the world WHEN they are OUT of FELLOWSHIP, carnal, quenching and/or greiving the Spirit, this is when the Old Sin Nature has control. We are to use 1 John 1:9 and this puts us back into fellowship, then we are the Christians the Lord wants us to be again. Then we sin again and it starts all over again. Keep using 1 John 1:9. And don't forget, this is the Devil's world and He loves for us to be out of fellowship, we as Christians just need to keep out smarting the devil and stay in fellowship. We are to love others as Jesus loves us, so let God worry about THOSE STINKERS.;)

 DudeIRock,

I know you weren't asking me but I wanted to barge in anyway. I'm like that.:)

Being  with gays and being  with gay marraiges are two seperate topics, although often closely related.
I know many Christians that sincerely believe that homosexuality is a sin yet they don not allow their particular religious beliefs to dictate their postions on social/political issues.
Granted, these are rare birds but they do exist.

For example, I don't smoke pot. I never have and I haven't even not not inhaled;) However, this my stuff. I would be the first person in the voting line to make marijanua legal if given that opportunity.
Didn't want to side track the tread with this but to let you know that there are those of us that are able to seperate our own personal morality from public policy.

Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the law and the prophets. Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go by in it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
