  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Should EVERYTHING in life be questioned? Or are there certain things that should just go without question?

I believe that everything SHOULD be questioned. And if it doesnt hold up to scrutiny or cant be given a sensible answer* then it should be changed or removed.

*Excluding such things as religion to which no satisfactory answer can be given by anyone

And just where do you think we would be if everything wasn't in question, its human NATURE to question that is what our design dictates....

As for reiligion, ALL men/women have a built in design just for some it has been damaged over the years, lagcies who needs them, we do, dna and all that, for those who are lost  its to late, for those who are getting the calling :groupray: and all those inbetween  get ready its going to get a little warmer....

Any questions...!

You'd have to define "hold up to scrutiny" well. No one's ever found a good argument for "my senses describe things which are external to me".

Just to logic. If someone hands you a piece of paper and says "Write your name 500 times on this." Ask why. If they dont give you a good answer, dont do it.

Can you give an example of something that according to you, does not 'hold up to scrutinty' and what 'scrutiny' are you referring to about religion not measuring up to?

I question your philosophy of questioning everything.

I will give you one of my examples.
Psychic powers.

Many people believe that people have them even though never has anyone been able to prove they really do have them with simple testing.

Much of these psychic tricks are just the peoples want to believe and the so called psychics just use basic psychology to reinforce their want to believe.

If psychic powers were true you would think that someone would have took James Randi’s challenge and win the million dollars.
http://www.randi.org/research/index.html

We are a species with an extreme want to believe and we don’t tend to question these when someone comes along and fills that want.

The most important things we need to ask more often yet we don’t is, why and how.

It's a good idea to keep questioning things, as it helps you avoid misinterpreting the why and how of events. But it's largely impractical to question absolutely everything. Try and do that and you'll spend all of your day in your bathroom glaring at your toothbrush and repeating, "Why? Why not?" over and over again.

Everything should be questioned and studied, and prayed about. Once you get a confirmation for something then you can build off that.

Christians dont want you to question any thing. Because we all know questions lead to more questions. and sooner or later you might ask the right one.
That truly is sad, even though such is the case for many. However there are some that do encourage such and really are helpful.

With the exception of a scant handful of individuals who have always felt God's presence in their life, we were all skeptics of the Christian faith at some point. I am analytical by nature (believe it or not). I used to rely solely on science and reason and, while I haven't abandoned neither science or reason, I rely on Christ as my compass. I tend to question everything, but I don't have to only because I have a Heavenly Father whom I know will eventually show me the reason why certain things in my life happen the way they do. I can take comfort in knowing my life is not just a series of cataclysmic events with no rhyme nor reason to them. I know that my feelings are more than neural responses from outside stimuli. I know that someday I will be able to question the ultimate Authority and He will be happy to answer anything I wish to know.
