Question About "Yeshua" (the name)

Reading the other thread that was closed, I am not entirely clear as to what is so special or important about the name "Yeshua" (as opposed to some other name).

Would a different name that -conotates/is used to refer to - the same thing be any less valuable, blessed, important or wonderous?

The difference is VERY simple really.

If my name is, say, Kathy, yet someone persists on calling me Kassie, is there a difference?? You bet there is.

Well, with the name of the Messiah it is even more important. You see, the name Yahshuah - is, like many words english and hebrew and other languages, a compound word. Yah = G-d, shuah = saves - so the name in the other thread means "G-d saves." Not bad, you say, what could be wrong with that?? After all, G-d DOES save.

Well yes, He does. But listen further. Y'shua does NOT mean G-d saves. It means salvation. Huh, you say??

The scripture says "And you shall call His name, Salvation (Y'shua). That He, that one IS Salvation!! NOT Yah-shua, not G-d saves!!

Many people thorughout the scriptures have a name that conotes an attribute of G-d. Like names that mean G-d is mighty. But HIS name does not mean someone else is going to do the saving. HIS name mean HE, that one, Messiah IS Salvation!

Our Messiah's name is not telling us that G-d saves, it is telling us Yeshua IS Salvation!

Between the two there is a vast world of difference!!!

I am not certain it even is in the scriptures, however, there are ppl here much more versed in Hebrew than I and they may know differently.

What you will find in the Hebrew Scriptures is yod-hey-vav-shin-ayin or yod-hey-vav-shin-vav-ayin both being long forms, or the shortened form yod-shin-vav-ayin. These would transliterate into English as Yehoshua[h] and Yeshua.The Name that was on the James ossuary in block Aramaic was Yeshua. I do not believe that there is any Hebrew that is rendered as Yahshua. The anti-misionaries prefer yeshu, associating it with "Immach Schemo Vezikro " which means "May his name and memory be blotted out." I hope this is helpful.

While I tend to agree with HT, none the less, it is a transliteration. There is no right way to transliterate Hebrew to English. However, there are obvious wrong ways...

Like I said, I tend to agree with HT.... Y'shua (Yeshua) is the typical Aramaic and/or Modern Hebrew transliteration and Yehoshua (Yehoshuah) is the typical anceint Hebrew transliteration.

I have found in my travels that it is typically the Sacred Namers that push forward the weird transliterations and I tend to think this is where Yahshuah (and other variations) have come from. Sacred Namer groups will claim they have the 'secret' name of G-d and often base salvation upon knowing this secret form of his name.
