I had this dream last night that is sort of sticking to me. it had to do with praying in tongues.

Short summary of it was.

I was in some sort of bible class, probably a study. and the class broke out into these fights, it had to do with doctrine and denominations.

There was a total division in the class, it got pretty bad. I leaned over to one of the women and told her, this division is caused by the enemy.

She agreed with me. I started praying in tongues out loud and a few of them started listening, I felt this warm jolt-type strength, like a refreshment of some sort, afterward everything went back to normal again. Everything was quiet.

Than I started getting attacked with spiritual warfare and doubts flooded in my mind trying to tell me that it was all false, and it was demonic. "How can this happen when I have so many problems in my life"

I am not one of those people who take everything I dream about with a spiritual meaning or from God, I am very cautious.

Does anyone have any thoughts perhaps about what I dreamt about?

For those who pray in tongues, is there this type of refreshing and strength you get from when you pray in tongues?

Something from the dream I can relate to in my real life experiance is that the enemy is always there waiting to destroy the "experiance(s)" we have with God.

That stuck out a bit.

Any thoughts? :)

One benefit of tongues, is that we can express with our spirits what we are feeling, but not get into an opinionated mode where we tell God how to deal with it. Have you noticed that? We allow God's spirit to pray through us when speaking in tongues. It is our spirits mixed with His spirit that conveys the message and makes the statements.

I heard a speaker yesterday
with a theory that we can impose curses on others through our spoken words. He hinted that some Christian's prayers are similar to witchcraft, in that they are controlling and sometimes pray for harm to others, in order to make life convenient for oneself. Prayers can be quite self-driven.

Similarly, fellowship divisions can also be self-driven. I do not believe they all are, but once people feel the insecurity of change, they panic.

Tongues put us in a mode where we align ourselves with His kingdom. (Hopefully!) And yield to what He wants to do, not what we want.

There are also some theories that evil spirits don't know the language, so they don't know what we're praying... I don't have any proof of that. But I have found additional strength and effectiveness in tongues.

Scriptures focus on the use of tongues for speaking to visitors in other languages, or delivering prophecies. But many authors support the concept that tongues empower for a situation. From experience, I agree.

I have had times interceding during a service, where I spoke in tongues, and sensed that who I was praying for had shifted from the local group, to someone in another country. Words have even stood out to me, that I wrote down and later looked up... finding understanding of what I'd prayed for.

Picture Hebrews 1:14, where the angels are ministering spirits, sent forth to do service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation. When we pray, we set things in motion. If we don't pray, we do things on our own strength and the angels sit there waiting.

I leaned over to one of the women and told her, this division is caused by the enemy.
This stood out to me in the dream. You had the insight, the understanding behind the situation.

When people feel threatened, they try to figure out who their greatest danger is, and avoid getting hurt again. Fight or flight. It is a natural response to fight, a natural response to flee. God put these in us.

But looking at the spiritual goings-on of a situation, we can rise above the earthly responses, and see what needs to be done in the spiritual realm.

There is much truth in what you say about some being cursed by tongues. We call those tongues demonic tongues, and sound like a deep gutral indian type language. I've felt terrible after some had prayed over me in tongues, particularly those who know your life.

I am very wary who places their hands on me and prays over me. Now this is a waring to be very aware of this.

As for Jay, we also need to remember that the enemy only comes to steal, destroy and kill.

Blessings.

Jay, don't put too much into dreams. Dreams are the signs and wonders of the roaring lion, who want to devour you.

So be very cautious.

I agree, I am very cautious about dreams, I have had some bad incidents with dreams being interpreted into something what some people would claim is from God.

I've had a lot of demonic dreams since I was a kid. I didn't know what they were until a few years after I was saved. I was still very young in the Lord, and I was mad at Him for not fixing my abusive marriage. I decided that I wasn't going to talk to Him, and I just kind of walked away.

I finally came back to the Lord, and I had a dream in which a demon (I thought it was Satan :) ) told me that if I kept following God, then he'd keep attacking me. For the next three weeks, a lot of junk happened (lot of car problems, etc.).

Anyway, to make a really long story shorter, I still have demonic dreams at times. I find that they increase when I have been more evangelistic, and they don't seem to happen a lot when I'm doing nothing for the Lord. I find that sometimes when I am having these dreams, I will begin to speak in tongues - and it is like you described - the warm, jolt like strength. I've had the same strength feeling when I have fought back with the Word of God. Just as sometimes in dreams, you don't feel like you are in control, it feels like this sometimes when I begin speaking the Word of God - it is like it just flows out of my mouth.
I've also noticed, too, though, that sometimes these demons see what is happening, and they want to make sure that you don't get too strong; they don't want you fighting back. They will interject thoughts into your dreams that will make you question and doubt. (Or they'll just speak it aloud to your face, but the other way seems to be more effective). AND...they don't always appear as demons, but as people.

Hope this helps.

I am going to have a crack at it.. If GOD gets the glory why does it matter that we take heed of what a dream might mean.. fear should not stand in our way..

Think back to the tower of babel.. why did GOD mix their languages??

The LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. Genesis 11:6

Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth. Genesis 11:9

The people were as one.. this happened to scatter them over the earth..

Think now to the disciples in the upper room.. they were all as one together.. and the LORD gave them tongues of fire.. and they began to speak in different languages as the LORD gave them utterance..

This was sign to them of a coming together.. being filled the HOLY SPIRIT.. the body of CHRIST on the earth..

I believe your dreams is a sign of the great out pouring of the HOLY SPIRIT as talked about in Acts.. which will bring the body together..

It doesn't mean that the people will suddenly be perfect.. but instead filled with GODS perfect power to do what HE has for them to do..

The devil of course will not like this.. as it means his time is shorter.. He will increase his pressure on the church and saints.. Remember that the persecution heigtened as the disciples were filled by the HOLY SPIRIT.. but they did many miracles and signs.. and many came to CHRIST..

I hope this helps you.. I could understand it without too much trouble.. I think hmmm humanly we cannot understand.. but the SPIRIT of GOD brings the understanding and we just know what it means..

I think all things can have a good or bad meaning to them.. like GOD can use all things too for HIS good purposes.. I just want to give GOD glory for this if it has been helpful to you.. :)

Also I came back.. LOL..

I felt this warm jolt-type strength, like a refreshment of some sort, afterward everything went back to normal again. Everything was quiet.

You said.. this.. I see this as peace.. inner peace.. believers are at rest in CHRIST.. In weakness.. GOD is our strength.. HIS anointing power on us..

I think that's true of any information or input that comes to us. We should be responsible with whatever we see, and allow God to use it for His glory. He turns all things for the good of those who love Him.

Some people get a JUST KNOWing with dreams from God, but after they get a few of these, more dreams and visions present themselves with less conviction and certainty of source.

Approach the dream with prayer, but also studying what the imagery might mean for you...how they feel (being cautious about a person, sensing a color meant something). Get deeper into the details of what you sensed than you think you should, and do some news searches online. Suddenly things will fall into place.

The end product should be... what? Certainly not obsession over a dream. But prayer over people who might need it, plans that are being made, decisions that need wisdom, neighborhoods that need protection, churches that are headed in self-seeking directions.

And maybe preparations that you-the-dreamer need to make. Or people that should be informed. Be the servant of Christ in whatever you do. The expected response was not given with the information, so I think God hopes we respond with love and concern, and proactive sensibility.

Ooh ooh ooh ooh!!!!

Do I ever have some good thoughts for you. Your dream was from the Lord. It was right on. I have put some things together about tongues, the benefits and all, that I have forgotten to post. It's very good, really.

I will come back and post it in a little bit.

Thanks for reminding me.

I do not agree. I think I prayed for this one. There is alot of division over doctrines in the church. Even speaking in tongues causes division. Tongues give you more boldness, because the Holy Spirit helps you to pray, especially in times that you do not know what to pray.
I have been used to pray over churches in my home town. Something about unity. I have prayed against porn shops, found out others were also, and one has closed.
I had two dreams about tongues, maybe more, but one dream: My daughter came into a room, where I was sitting in the dominant side of the bed with my ex-wife. My daughter was radiant and looked alot older. I was thinking of what to pray and thought of speaking in tongues. Another dream: Three figures were on a balcony and I looked up and started praying in tongues. I think these things were those things in the high places that we pray against or take into captivity. High places can include, your mind, which the demons try to penetrate and places where the principalities sit in say the heavenlies.

First reason the enemy doesn't want you filled with the Holy Ghost

R[URL="http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Act&c=1&v=8&t=KJV#8"]Act 1:8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth[/URL]

Second reason
Jud 1:20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Third reason
Rom 8:26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered
Fourth reason
When we pray in the understanding. We pray according to what we feel, hear, see, understand to be good for us or for others but God says this
1Cr 2:9But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him
So I suggest that you are not cautious about praying in tongues that you let it rip as often as possible. For in this last hour...

Joe 2:28And it shall come to pass afterward, [that] I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

you can't get Christians to agree on doctrines but one thing they all say.

I have prayed about this, I do not normally post anything about my dreams, they are generally kept to myself and I have at times taken them without much thought.

I will keep praying on it, and of it was from Him, I am sure He will let me know :) Does make me curious.

Well I for one have not yet been filled yet, at least I do not think I have been.

God has heavily encouraged me into seeking this Gift and has put many things in front of me about this.

Speaking in tongues:

  • Builds up the believer.

I Corinthians 14:4 - "He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church."

Jude, verse 20 - "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost..."

  • Brings revelation.

I Corinthians 14:2 - "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."

The Bible states that whoever speaks in tongues speaks mysteries unto God. When you speak by the Spirit, you are saying things hard to be understood. You are uttering dark sentences. You are bringing into light that which is not known to people. You are making known the unknown.

You are speaking mysteries unto God.

Then, as you continue speaking in tongues more and more and more, the interpretations will come through the spirit of revelation in your life.

In I Corinthians 14:18, the apostle Paul said, "I speak with tongues more than ye all"; this same apostle Paul [who spoke with tongues more than all of them], in II Corinthians 12:7 spoke of " the abundance of the revelations"

    Paul spoke much about revelation:

His great prayer for the Ephesians was that they would receive deeper revelation of God [Ephesians 1].

He stated that he came up to Jerusalem by revelation [Galatians 2].

In fact, the Bible states 7 mysteries brought forth by the Apostle Paul:

    1. The Mystery of Incarnation (1 Timothy 3:16)

    2. The Mystery of the Indwelling Christ (Colossians 1:27)

    3. The Mystery of the Body of Christ (Ephesians 5:31-32)

    4. The Mystery of Israel's Blindness (Romans 11:25)

    5. The Mystery of the Rapture (1 Corinthians 15:51-53)

    6. The Mystery of the Antichrist (2 Thessalonians 2:7)

    7. The Mystery of Babylon the Great (Revelation 17:5)

If you speak mysteries to God, He will speak mysteries to you.

  • Brings refreshing.

I Corinthians 14:21 - "In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord."

But where in the law is it written?

Isaiah 28:11,12 - "For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear."

  • Helps the believer to pray the will of God by the Spirit of God.

I Corinthians 14:14 - "For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful."

Romans 8:26,27 - "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. "

  • Helps the faith life.

Jude 20 - "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost..."

  • Brings God's angels.

Psalm 103:20 - "Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word."

Hebrews 1:14 - "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?" Angels of God minister to us, thereby bringing us rest and refreshing, which ties back in to Isaiah 28:11,12, because if the angels are bringing refreshing to us by hearkening to God's word being spoken out of our mouths, and if tongues brings refreshing, it stands to reason even further than speaking in tongues brings the angels of God.

  • Keeps the believer in God's love.

Jude 20, 21 - "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Amen! I believe that we confound the evil one when we bypass the intellect and pray in tongues. It is a form of spiritual warfare, where the Holy Spirit uses our voice to declare the truth as salvos against Satan and to dismantle his kingdom and agenda in our lives and others'.
