Some Catholic friends from my college were asking about the Orthodox opinion of the Immaculate Conception and one said:
"It just seems unfitting to me that Jesus could be in a womb of a woman tainted by sin. Do y’all see her as a fulfillment of the ark of the covenant?"

What should I say?

What should I say?

You should say "is it an article of the Christian faith"?

And then ask them if it is worth squabbling over if it might lead to the eternal damnation of someone observing the conversation.

Isn't the Immaculate Conception a dogma for the Roman Catholics?

It is for the Romans in the West but not for the East. It is a dogma of the Roman Church coming about after the Schism. It has never been resolved by an Ecumenical Council.

That's just a portion of the IC Latin dogma. The Dogma claims she was completely free of ancestral (and the possibility of personal sin) by the excess merits of Jesus on the cross. That is the atonement worked backwards in time to reverse Eve's curse at moment of conception.

She did have ancestral (original) sin though. That's why they can't understand she being the Ark.
How could she be the ark if she were severed from Adam? Already ignoring the fact that the entire old covenant was to bring forth the virgin, and that such folly would make it useless history, including the pre-figurement of the ark. It is he who does not see her as fulfilling the ark.

you can ask if she isn't tainted by sin, why did she die?

To which they will reply, 'She didn't', roaming catholics belive in the assumption of the virgin Mary, that she didn't die but was taken up into heaven.

A better, in my biased opinion, is to point ou that not only was Jesus born by a sinner but he lived among them, washed, ate, played, worked with them.
There was nothinh holy or sacred about the peasent lifestyle he lived.

again, then I would ask why do we have her tomb?

except that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. that has nothing to do with why we reject the IC.
