  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Be sure to credit AI when copying and pasting AI sources. Link to the site of the AI search, just like linking to an article.

question about site promotion

Hard work and persistence with a great deal of integrity!

You should visit www.selfpromotion.com. His site will get you started. Submit to as many free search engines as you can. Get links on other sites and indexes as much as possible. If it is a non-commercial site, try to get it in the Zeal (looksmart) directory and the Open Directory (DMOZ) project.

Do NOT spam people or purchase mass mailing programs that will spam people...we don't like it.

I don't think banner exchanges are typically a great way to go, neither are so-called Free-For-All Links pages.

Just my opinions...

Peace,

WJ

question about site promotion

Does anyone know where i can get information about promoting my website? what are the best ways to promote it? search engines? mailing lists? banner exchanges? what?

thanks for your help

The best thing you can do is pass your website to various search engines (i.e. google, yahoo, lycos....... as many as you can)... if you got the bread to pay for the promotion, you can subscribe to google or ebay. the dilemna with mailing list is the increased risk of being branded as spam email, so it's not that advisable really! hope this helps.. cheers :)

banner exchanges don't work. I've been down the road of site promotion. What works is having a site with lots of content on it, and I do mean lots. Have the proper page titles and tags done. Make sure you have no dead links. Then submit it to dmoz.org and altavista.com . Make sure that other sites that have been indexed by the major search engines link to your site.

Don't play any games, because the search engines know every game there is and will penalize you heavily for it, if not blacklisting you altogether.

This is bla-bla. The serious web promotion couldn't be done with these suggestions. On the other hand, I don't believe that someone will give you substantial suggestions for free.

Think with me. There are billions of sites that all compete for several front positions. If you could manage to do successful web promotion with these suggestions, what about the others?

If you run a business site, act wisely, pay for web promotion. But keep in mind; the others do that too; you must spend more. :)

I agree, Tell-a-friend is a good idea. I give 20% to customers, that refer my products to their friends.

I have put TAF forms everywere on my site and on the product-info page. The statistic is: 1.5% customers refer products to 1.36 friends. From them 10% come to me.

Or in other words, you could expect 0.15% from TAF. Of course, you could make this better and achieve better results.

Could anybody give a better statistics and how it is achieved?

Yes, I can Jill

I had a gamers page. I followed the stats very closely, on a daily basis.

First, I had a site developed in frames... a big no-no with site promotion. I had 1500 pages of unique content. Once I was listed at Google and Dmoz, and thus all their affiliates, my visitors increased 900%. I ranked in the top 5 for my chosen keywords in Google. I was good.

College knowledge or no college knowledge, ranking in the search engines is your best bet, and I'm living proof of just what someone like me can do when they put their mind to it. You can give them their discounts. I'll go with what works, and I don't have to give them a dime.

How long did this take to you? When did you start to promote, and when did you receive these results?

It took under 6 months once I listed in the Open Directory Project for the data to be shared with the greatest majority of their affiliates. I ranked in the top 10 with Hotbot, Dmoz and Lycos for a long time. Altavista took a matter of weeks at the time, and I was in the top two. That was my favorite search engine for years.

I was really good at what I did, after a really good talk with the master of search engine technology, Bob Massa.

The key, more than anything, is content, content and more content. The more, the better. The search engines love you when they find 1000 pages of information relevant to your targetted keywords on your website. For some reason, banner farms and personal homepages just don't cut it.

You want the biggest kicker of them all? You know how they say you need your own domain to be successful in the search engines? I was hosting that site on a free webserver at the time. My url was a mile long, and had absolutely nothing to do with the contents of my site. Go figure. :p

Go take a look at it.

Word of mouth really is the ultimate form of promotion. All you really need is you and a group of friends with a good idea and forum. Make sure that you post regularly on the forum and promote the site everywhere during the initial stages and you stand a good chance of getting off the ground.

Often the site will just crash to the ground though, especially if you haven't planned, even more so if it is community based. Try and make the site unique and put effort into the aesthetics. Learn how to make your website look professional.

A sucessful forum will drive loads of traffic into the site because threads about your forum on other boards along with sig links will pop up all over the internet. People will also link your site in their blogs and personal pages. Google will find this.
