  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi all,

As you can see, I'm a protestant and non-denominational but my husband and I have been looking into orthodoxy and we have questions but no one to ask.

Who/where can I ask about saints?

Many thanks! CC

Are those saints the same as the ones in Eastern Orthodox?

I have no idea? If so, yes! If no, yes, also!
Some are in both churches, but there are some differences in theology. We can help, but talking to a priest is very important!

Do you have any particular questions that you’d like to discuss? We are happy to chat about your questions. I learned a lot about Orthodox on TAW when I was inquiring.

(posting in fellowship)

Many pre-schism Saints are venerated in both Churches.

Thanks so much! What is TAW, please? I just wanted to understand, really, how someone became a saint and under what authority, really. Also, what their role is in the church etc.

Thank you!

TAW is an acronym. It means The Ancient Way- Eastern Orthodox. This sub forum.

Just like OBOB is an acronym for One Bread, One Body- Catholic. The Catholic sub forum.

Other common acronyms include PM- private message, OP- original post/poster, etc

Hope this helps!

Yes, it helps greatly, thank you very much!

The answers here are helping me, immensely.

I may have the opportunity to join a seminary school, either funded or self funded, which will possibly lead to senior roles within a church but I have not yet settled on where I feel I belong as an individual within a church and so, the seminary may or may not align with my personal understandings etc.

On that basis, I am seeking to understand different things, along with prayer, so I can ask the right questions etc.

Also, my husband who is not a believer, is showing great interest in TAW so all things assist.

Thanks for your help!
