  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Last week my dog got bitten by another dog in the neck. His neck swelled up and I rushed him to an Emergency Vet Hospital. They gave me antibiotics and put drains into the area that was swollen. A couple days later I took him to his Vet to have the puppies rabies shot as well as get the drains taken out. Do you think that I need to worry about my dog having rabies?

Probably not. In most non-rural areas these days, people are pretty responsible about keeping up with their dogs' rabies shots, especially in those jurisdictions that require them by law. I think your pup will probably be okay, just keep a close eye on him for the next couple of week for any abnormal behavior.

If you can find the owner of the dog that bit him, you can ask to see his dog's rabies certificate. That will put your mind at ease.

Thats the problem I don't know which dog attacked him. We have several that roam the neighborhood. I had been keeping my dog in a fenced in area but I was cleaning the area so for a few days I had him chained to a tree in our yard. He got loose one night. Not sure if he got loose when the dog attacked him or after he had gotten loose.

Within ten days of the bite your dog will not be alive should he have contracted rabies. You also may see signs like a protruding tongue, difficulty swallowing, and a definite change in the dog's behavior before the ten days are up. If your dog is alive and well after ten days, you've nothing to worry about.

Your vet didn't chat with you about this?

Blessings,

Listen, from a medical standpoint it doesnt matter at this point(who bit who) if your animals already been Vet Checked.they do anti serum. unless your in the backwoods there and they dont which i highly think just doesnt happen.every bite is taken as possible Rabies inflicted,it doesnt matter which dog bit.now if you think the owners owe you for your bill this is another issue. its not up to you to ask to see a rabies tag,its up to animal control.good luck, hows the dog doing?

He is doing alot better than he was a week ago. He is back to his normal self other than he still has a huge swelling under his neck. We nursed him inside the house till we felt that he was back to his normal self. We have put him back outside but not on the chain he was on. He is back in his fenced in area.

An abscess is a nasty thing - was the dog that bit yours UTD on its shots? Was a rabies hold required on the dog?

he was a little behind on his shots. But they are UTD now. No they didn't have to hold him. It has been 8 days so far and it seems like he is going to be ok. He still has a little abscess on his neck. If it doesn't go down by monday I am going to take him back to the vet.
