  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi. I don't know if this is the right place to put this or not, if it's not I'm sorry.

I have a question about guitars. I really want to play guitar, but I'm wondering about whether it's an evil instrument or not. Does anyone here think guitar is evil? If you think my question is silly that's fine. I'm looking for I guess anyone who would agree with me and think God has perhaps shown them the same thing.

I think guitars may be evil for several reasons. I want to play classical guitar. They have a hole in them. I think that possibly symbolizes the "eye of horus" and the demonic third eye kind of thing. Also, there's 6 pegs at the bottom, 6 strings, and 6 knobs at the top. So that's triple 6. Seems intentional to me. And all the really evil musicians play guitar. This doesn't sound good to me.

So, has God possibly shown anyone else the same thing or something similar? I really like guitar, because of the sound and all the notes you can play and it's nice to play. But I can't play anything evil of course (I'm Christian).

Please let me know what you think, whether you think they are or not.

Do you listen to praise and worship music that has a guitar anywhere in the mix? If so, you must not feel that strongly about it.

If not then I'd tell you like this. Any instrument can be used by anybody to make good or bad music. I can find musicians who play piano that do so in a non-Christian way. So by your own standard "all the evil musicians" no instrument is a good instrument.

Why not just get one, learn to play it for the glory of God. I can promise you God is not offended by your instrument. Plus, there are 7 string guitars, 12 string guitars... If the 6 string kind offends you get something with more.

I understand your view and why you would say what you did. I'm just really concerned that God might actually really not like a guitar. I just wonder about it. I think that even if I got a 7 sttring or 12 string it still wouldn't be a good idea, because it's related to the 6 string.

I don't listen to any "Christian" music actually, I think it's all tainted and has spells and other things all over it. I have good reason to think that, though you may disagree. And you're right that you can take an instrument like even the piano and make evil music with it.

Thank you for your opinion though, I'm thinking maybe it might not matter and I'm taking it too seriously. I would love to play for the glory of God.

I'm actually really convicted that I don't listen to any music with guitar in it, I think that maybe if I do I will be getting curses because of the guitar. I also think it might be possible if you play a 6 string guitar that you could put curses on others because of the 6 pegs, 6 strings, and 6 knobs at the top. It just sounds strange to me.

By your own reasoning there'd be millions of Christians under a curse because of guitars in Christian music, even praise and worship. Including me because I play guitar and I can promise you I'm under no curse.

But at the end of the day, you just have to do what you feel is right. Anything else to you is sin. Be blessed

Any instrument is fine. It's the lyrics that one should test with scripture. :)
I think pure music, aside from lyrics, can induce states of mind.

If I was devout I might ask: are these states of mind compatible with scripture?

No, the guitar is not evil. Playing the guitar is not evil. There are stringed instruments in the scriptures, perhaps some precursors to the guitar; they're not evil, either.

The most common instance of evil in relation to the guitar is when you're in the music store and somebody tries out a guitar and starts playing Stairway to Heaven. That's downright malicious. There's no good in it.

Regarding instruments, I think we get a go for it ! In scripture. And not just to be multifaceted instruments, but also loud is fine, and dancing good. :cheer:

See last song here and the scripture party right below.

A lot of openly satanic musicians play guitars
Satanists also drive cars. And eat breakfast cereal. And have pets.

Why can't they leave anything for the rest of us!?

I'm just being observant. The satanists sure do love their guitars (and I don't put it that way to talk down about them). There's pretty much almost always a guitar or two in their groups.

Literally, scripture encourages us to use instruments such as stringed instruments to praise the Lord.

:) Really -->

3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.

Bible Gateway passage: Psalm 150 - New International Version

Now, that's the really good way to use a guitar. Like all other things, it can be used in a good way, or a not good way.

Use it in a good way. Use it for the Lord.
