Hey, I have little to no knoweldge about the Orthodox Churchs. But I am curious on what the big difference between the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church?

Like, besides the little things, I am talking about doctrines and such.

Also, How do you all view the Pope?

Thank you and God bless.

IMNSHO, The biggest difference is how we view the fallen state of man. However, this is a rather deep topic.

More superficially (but still important), we deny the universal jurisdiction and infallability of the Pope. We reject the dogmas of Purgatory and the Immaculate Conception. Most Orthodox believe in the ever-viriginity of the Theotokos, her sinless life and her assumption. However, we do not make these dogma. We reject the Western addition of "and the Son" to the Creed on both theological and authoritative grounds.

Also, How do you all view the Pope?

He is Bishop of Rome, Patriarch of the West, and a Successor of Peter. Should he rejoin the Orthodox Faith, he will likely be restored as the first among equals.

Do you ever think the orthodox and rome will become united?

All things are possible with God. I have my doubts though. I very seriously doubt that either we or our grandchildren will see it. However, it would be a great day for Christianity were it to happen if the Orthodox faith is not compromised.

I was under the impression that the general Orthodox concensus is that the seat of the Bishop of Rome is empty, not occupied by "the Pope"

I would highly suggest your research these things on your own, by looking up Orthodox websites on google or some other search engine.

It's hard to get a plain, clear view of Orthodoxy on a web forum such as this one, as political correctness and ecumenism run rampant so as not to "offend" other denominations and the like.

Just wanting to know your opion, because my religion teacher keeps telling me of how we will all become one soon.

Thank you for your reply.

Oh no! Not the same question again?
From what I see, discussions on this topic can become quite bitter... besides, this has been covered in threads in the past few weeks in OBOB and TAW
(Let's see if I can find them....)

Can you tell me what other matters separate the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church besides the issue of the Primacy of the Pope?
What separates the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church is not only the Primacy of the Pope also known as the Infallibility, but also the following innovations of the Roman Catholic Church: The Procession of the Holy Spirit. Purgatory and indulgences. The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Invocation of the epiclesis. Unleavened Bread. Holy Communion. Divorce. Clergy's Martal Status.
