  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had back labor with my first. The worst part about that is that the pain continues between contractions also. Basically it was from him being in a posterior position (that is when the baby's back is against your back) Birth in this position is very hard, also. I would advise you to take it seriously and try to get the baby to turn. My midwife told me that it is usually caused by spending to much time in a reclined position (mine was hours on the couch ^_^ ) Doing stuff on hands and knees encourages the baby to roll over. With my son, we finally got him to turn during labor, which is not a great time to do that.

If you're not really close to your due date it shouldn't be a big deal, though. Most babies get into a good position on their own. :)

You are a long, long way from the surety of back labor! Your baby will swivel from anterior to posterior many, many times before birth. Often a baby will be posterior right up until labor and then swivel around. Because I am short (5'2")- my babies are often posterior through out my pregnancy, becasue there is just more room that way!

One of my 6 was born persistently posterior (she didn't rotate). I just did what I always do- and rocked on my hands and knees and used my birth ball and stood rocking my hips in a circle. I was unable to get in the water or shower as my placenta had abrupted-- but being in the shower on hands and knees would help both bring comfort and help the baby turn.
Are you planning on using a doula or a midwife? Either would know how to help encourage a posterior baby to turn.

Basically hands and knees, knee/chest, being in water, standing and swivelling your hips, deep knee bend lunges, walking up and down stairs, rocking with one foot on one step above the other....
those will all help.

The pain can be decreased by water, rolling pin, firm pressure on hips on sacrum, ...

Thanks for the info, i still have 3 months, but it is like he is in my back a lot now and boy oh boy does it hurt. :) but i love him:D
You can do all of those things I mentioned for labor now, too- the stairs one works pretty well without looking too wierd! The baby might go right back to being posterior, but you might be able to get some relief!
