Qualities of a leader

well I need to make up a guide line for what qualifications (i guess you would say) or guidelines a person must have before they can become a leader in my Youth Group.

stuff like,
must respect other leaders, must put the kids before yourself, must pray for your small group and youth group everyday, must attend all meetings every week, stuff like that.

any suggestions?

Qualities of a Christ-centered leader should include: Integrity, Dedication, Sense of humor (relieves tensions), Magnanimity, Openness, Humility, Fairness, and Assertiveness. You find someone with those qualities and you don't have to worry about "stuff like, must respect other leaders, must put the kids before yourself, must pray for your small group and youth group everyday, must attend all meetings every week, stuff like that."

Transparency.

You can not be a leader if you can not be open and transparent. A leader is one who is the first to voice their own failings and honesty about what they struggle with. You can not be a leader if you do not have that.

1 timothy 3, titus 1 lay out the qualifications for a pastor/overseer. the following paragraphs lay out the qualifications for a deacon which IMO should be the qualifications for a youth "advisor" or "leader" to some extent. but the director, or whatever your church calls it "head leader" should meet those of the 1 timothy 3, titus 1.

I totally agree with what was said in previous posts! Also, as a youth leader the person must be sensitive to the maturity of the youth kids (idk if I worded that right, lol). For example, lets say that you're a Christian youth leader who doesn't mind alcohol but knows your limits when drinking alcohol (is able to know when to stop drinking) and makes wise choices. And then, within your youth ministry you have a young guy (lets call him Dan) who recently got saved & before he got saved he was known for underage drinking, crazy parties & getting drunk every weekend. If "Dan" sees that his youth leader drinks, he may think it is ok. But because he hasn't developed that maturity & ability as the youth leader has to know his limits and control himself with alcohol, Dan would have difficulty in that area. Basically, as a youth leader you have to be an example & to do your absolute best to avoid the possibility of the youth stumbling. I think there's a verse somewhere in the Bible that talks about not letting a weaker brother fall...not sure of where though.. I am a youth leader myself & this was one of the 1st things that I had learnt.

Seperate the man made rules from God's rules. "Attend every meeting." hardly carries the same weight as "Spend time in the Word every day."

If you will have a staff, make sure that you are willing to do yourself what you expect them to do.

i guess if ur going to make a list of qualities of that being a leader then that sure would be a long one. u can make it easier by God's guidance though..
What we really look for a leader is the one that can MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. God says in the bible:
I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here to there" and it will move.
(Matthew 17:20)

So a leader must have a strong Faith that can defend and endure, and his faith will make him decide the right things for the rest. Hope this helps. God Bless You!

I. Should be trustworthy. He/she should be trusted in every action he does should be honesty and intelligent.

II. Should be like a role model to his/her group as a leader.

III. Should function in an orderly and purposeful manner in situation of uncertainty.
