Is it damaging to make stars out of children? Certainly there have been many high profile cases of child stars developing problems later when they reach their teenage years, unfortunately though, I don't have any statistics on quite how many turn out fine and how many turn out to be an emotional mess.

Should society be more careful before putting children into such positions? We don't allow children to be taken advantage of sexually, so is it right to take advantage of them in other ways?

If the child is provided with a set of priorites and standards to follow along with an understanding that there is no such thing as one person being any more special that another in GOD's sight, then no. When a child or any person comes to feel that they are better, more talented, better loved, etc., then problems start.

Some people are more talented than others. It is both the truth and taught in Scripture.

Of course Scripture teaches that with those talents comes additional responsibility, as do many other sources. But the culture of Hollywood and stardom often seems to teach the opposite.

Everyone has gifts of one sort or another. Man values one above another, but not GOD. GOD sees the need for both toes and fingers. It is man who says this is more important then that ---- and of course he wants to be paid accordingly.... Why would a farmer be less important than say an athlete?
