  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you have purity problems such as lusting, sexual desires, and so on..

Regards,
Drew
Yes, I am a red-blooded American male, therefore I have lust issues that I must struggle against.... I mean since you made the qualifications so far reaching..... and lust is sexual desire..... but desiring and giving in to desire are to different things.......
so I am a virgin but I have fallen into lusting before, and even desired things, and have looked at things I know I shouldn't have.....

God created us as sexual beings. How is having sexual desires wrong?

depends.. Jesus said if you even think about another person aside from your spouse, that is adultery. Does the same not hold true for a single person, that if you think it -- you have done it? I struggle, but with prayer and all glory and praise to God, I am overcoming it. Sexual desire for your spouse, however... have at it and have fun!!

How is sexual desire in itself wrong? You don't necessarily have to be desiring a particular person.

I mean, if it were wrong to have a sex drive before marriage, then in the ideal world no one would have any sexual desire as a single person, and then (let's be honest, here) almost no one would get married, and the human population would dwindle to almost zero. Which is not the ideal world that seems to be presented in the Bible.

I think that if by young adulthood, you have zero sexual desires...you may want to get checked out.
Sexual desire is one thing that everyone has and is not a purity issue. It becomes a purity issue when you dwell on those thoughts (lust), act on those thoughts, or seek to pursue those thoughts.

Nope. No purity issues. My drinking water is fine, just taste a bit metallic. Must be the irony.

Last time I checked, I haven't raped; murdered; stolen; attacked someone; been particularly insolent or kicked any puppies, so I'd say my purity is just about safe. No little whiskery six-legged things for me.

If you've lived your entire life and never desired to have sex, at ALL ... well ... you're either saintly or you should see a doctor.

That being said, it is not ok to lust (have sexual thoughts) about anyone besides your spouse. That means, if you are single, it's not ok (and the whole "well, it's human nature, everyone does it, can't help it, yadda yadda" excuse doesn't cut it) to have sexual thoughts about ANYONE, including your b/f or g/f or that hot hottie who just walked by. Seem unfair? Sure it does. But if you're honest with yourself, and you have any amount of maturity, you can see why it's best to control yourself and your thoughts until you're safely within the bonds of marriage, and you can go to [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]' town.

Is it a sin to think to yourself "I'd like to have sex someday with my spouse" or "I wonder what it's like to have sex"? No. It's NOT a sin to think about sex in a general, impersonal way, or to desire it. We were created with genitals for a reason, folks. Sex feels good because God wanted it to feel good. It's when you DWELL on that thought, get yourself all worked up, or start focusing on a particular person that it becomes sinful.

I think most people get married for more than just sex.:p So I wouldn't worry about the human population zipping out regardless of humanity's sex drive level. We'd probably have less out-of-wedlock pregnancies and less adultery, though, so I guess the population would fall, but certainly not to zero.:)

In answer to the poll, yes, I do have purity struggles. Not so much with my past (I have come to terms with that). Mostly with thoughts. Sometimes lusting, though I have improved in that area. I think my biggest struggle is porn. Although I haven't actually looked at porn in about 3 months, praise God, I still struggle with thinking about it, replaying the images in my mind. But I'm getting better.:)

Unless you are talking about the difference between God and man, I don't think in terms of 'purity' or 'impurity'. As creatures who are already impure by default (original sin), there is simply a right way and a wrong way to do things.

Way to make a simple question really complicated.:p
