Yes. There is quite a bit of theological speculation concerning Purgatory, but what you have stated are the bare-bone facts.

Ummm, sure. Man, this sort of stuff is getting real old, real quick.j-unit_randy said:Uh... the purgatory idea CREATED by the catholic church during the medieval times isn't true. It was a hoax, the pope brought it up, and started making people believe it. THEN he told people that if they donated money to the church, they would spend less time in the purgatory, but that was a hoax just so the pope could get more money. Such...corruption! How come the purgatory was NEVER mentioned in the bible? So, if God never said this was there, it can't be there! HOAX!

At least 1/2 or more of MJ's are converted protestant and the other 1/2 converted orthodox Jew so biased? I doubt it.a Messianic Jew site, who are biased towards a Protestant view of Scripture.
Now that sounds biased. If it's all the same to you, I'll stick with the Orthodox Jew interpretation of the Kaddish, since afterall, it is their prayer.
In life we face temptations (so did Christ) and trials (difficulties) sometimes we fail and learn from mistakes, sometimes takes more than once to overcome our weaknesses....sometimes we succeed and carry that faith thru the next ordeal to overcome that too.How does this comment jive with your next comment, made immediately afterwards...
This IS my point....this is how we are refined during our life.Or even with Christ's own words?
Revelation 3:19 Such as I love, I rebuke and chastise. Be zealous therefore and do penance.
Agreed, but there was a perfect sacrifice made to pay that debt and purchased grace for us by which we are forgiven when we repent....and we fail and fall and we are convicted in spirit and or suffer the physical consequences of bad decisions or choices.God is not unjust if we suffer because the gift that man lost was just that, a gift not to suffer, not a right not to suffer and man lost that gift.
My sister is catholic and what i do know about purgatory is based on her telling me that if you were a liar that you'd have to go there for who knows how long and have snakes crawling out of your mouth to teach you not to lie.The Catholic Church has never defined whether Purgatory is a place or a state of being. That being said, it is not there for the purpose of making the souls who go there suffer. It is the final step in our sanctification where the Lord convicts us of our sins for the last time, that we may be made fully free from them.
God Bless,
Neal
You have to be one of the most hateful "christians" I've read in the forum's. Where is you love and understanding?Ummm, sure. Man, this sort of stuff is getting real old, real quick.
And how are you supposed to act as a christian? [noflame]Whoohoo, yet ANOTHER person to ignore...congratulations, you just set a new record for the least amount of posts needed to trigger the ignore button!![]()
Seriously, get a clue about the Catholic faith before you try to sell your mis-information -- we're all stocked up here...

You are always a great source of information and blessing for all of us here.
May the Lord always call you to Himself.
I see Purgatory as a gift from God.
I would agree with BAChristian. It is a chance for a soul to pay off & atone for misdeeds, and purge itself of impurities & blotches it acquired in this world & which prevent it from moving closer to God.Yes, we do believe in something akin to the RC notion of Purgatory & thus saying the Mourner's Kaddish would be similar to the RC idea of praying for the souls in Purgatory
Thanks for the Orthodox Jewish commentary on the Kaddish, SSV.
Yes, a Messianic Jew site, who are biased towards a Protestant view of Scripture. It's basically a no-brainer that they would say that the Kaddish wasn't a prayer for the dead, but rather for the ones left behind. If it's all the same to you, I'll stick with the Orthodox Jew interpretation of the Kaddish, since afterall, it is their prayer.

It's NYJ. Come on, three simple letters, one correct order to put them in.blessed2 said:
You win some, you lose some. *shrug* I really shouldn't point out the hypocrisy in your comments, you know with you questioning my faith by putting Christian in quotation marks but... oh, guess I did point it out, didn't I?blessed2 said:You have to be one of the most hateful "christians" I've read in the forum's.
