  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pure bedlam...

Glad you are feeling better MParedon!

Just to reiterate what many others have said, you are always welcome in Wesley's Parish and you are loved here. We may not see eye to eye on all matters, but then who does? What matters is that Christ died for all of us, his same blood was shed for me as was shed for you. Please come and visit us often!

I thank you guys very much. You don't know how much better you've made me feel.

But now I have another problem. I hate bothering you guys with this, but I seem to be on a bit of a crusade. This disturbing trend that Britney (or Modonna) is starting is making me sick to my stomache. Here's the link to the thread in OBOB http://www.christianforums.com/showthread.php?p=9086695#post9086695post9086695
if you'd like to pop in to see why I'm so upset.

Really, I'm not interested in theological debate about it. It's really just a matter of respect. If I can ask any of you to please please not buy these necklaces I would be so grateful. To see these bandied about as a trend makes me a little hot under the collar.

Sorry, for taking up thread space. I know this is a Methodist forum and you guys really don't need me bothering you with it here, so I thank you for you patience.

As dsdumpling said, no intrusion. It helps us to know these things. I sorta have these same feelings when I seen "gangsta rappers" wearing these huge crosses around their necks. I have to wonder do they realize the significance of that cross or is it just jewelry to them. Part of me also wonders if there is a Divine hand though that guided them in the choice of that particular piece of jewelry. I guess we never know what might affect them and cause them to further investigate what is hanging around their necks. May it be so for Ms. Brittany....

I agree that wearing any religious symbol without knowing, caring or respecting the meaning behind it is wrong. Lucky for my 12 yr old daughter can't stand Britney or any of those girls.

Along a similar line--would it be ok for me to crochet a rosary to give as a gift to a Catholic friend? I have a pattern with the bead count and sizes, etc., but wonder if it would be usable? (showing my ignorance here, but always willing to learn).

Sorry it took so long for me to post back. It would be totally ok to crochet a rosary for your friend.

I was mainly upset because I viewed Britney's lack of...well I don't know...respect or something. I was looking at her intention, and although I'm still upset, I see that humans can only go so far when discerning other people's intentions. I also had horror thoughts of malls marketing belly chain rosaries b/c of this trend....but I'll just pretend I never thought of it

I think I've seen crocheted (sp?) rosaries before, they would be usable and washable, what better could you ask for! :D
