Psychic abilities - good/bad?

I guess the bible is against divining and tarot cards and all that. Which I totally understand. I see so much delusion around people who give and recieve psyhic readings etc??

Those people are heavily into New Age teaching, it wouldn't surprise me if there was something . . . else . . . about them.

We have a sub-forum here where people talk about visions. Visions to me are based on clairevoyance. That is a psychic ability.

And the men in the bible who predict future events etc.

There is a difference between what you are talking about and what comes from the Holy Spirit. God's people who prophesied and received visions in the Bible did so from the Holy Spirit rather than what you are talking about. Scripture condemns false prophets and their visions.

If someone has psychic abilities are we going to stone them and condemn them to death etc?

No - I had a friend who claimed to be an empath among other things. He didn't ask for it. As far as I know, he did not try to get further into this with the occult, but I may be mistaken. When people are in a position such as this friend of mine, that is where Satan wants them, so he can tempt them to exercise it with witchcraft and really get a hold of their lives.

If you can, do a word search at one of the online Bible sites like blue letter bible for "spirit". You'll be amazed at all the times Spirit is used in the OT. Like in Genesis, the Spirit of God (who is the Holy Spirit) moved across the face of the waters. Or in I Samuel something where the Spirit fell on King Saul and he prophesied! Didn't do him much good, but there you are.

Fortunately Jesus sent God's Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to us to be our teacher, our comforter, our friend, etc. while we are apart from Jesus. But he's not a fortune-teller or a trick monkey. He has guided my actions and saved me from bad decisions. But he doesn't tell me the future.

Example: A month or so ago he told me to park my car in the shade. Thinking to save the spot for a paying customer, I parked in the sun. And I returned to my car to find the windshield shattered from the hot sun! Now I know why I should have parked in the shade! Usually he's not leading me to do something that selfish, but if he's trying to teach you obedience, then you best listen up!

Actually I understand what you say to a point,

but what I am talking about is abilities.

I don't think most people understand what psychic abilities really entail.

We often think they are like powers of super heros etc, but from what I see they are linked to the brain and mind and are not that special.

More like a sixth sense.

Most are born like this, and it does not empower their life, in fact because of their 'difference' they find it difficult to fit into everyday life.

When put that way, I'll say it's a load of crap.

The Holy Spirit came upon some of God's people in the Old Testament. He came to us in a new way at Pentecost after Jesus ascended. Now, believers could have the Spirit not just upon them, but in them.

Not exactly what you're thinking, given your Eastern background. This is different. God is omnipresent, but that doesn't mean He's in the trees and rocks and so forth. He is not like The Force. He is always there with us, but not everything has Him in it. He has control of the birds and the water and all that, but He is not in them. Rather, He is with us and uses whatever He wills to instruct us, encourage us, and so forth.

Satan was once a beautiful angel, but he corrupted himself out of his own choosing.
