Isn't God doing a comparison to Himself and the idol?

iow, God is a person, He sees, he hears, he smells and feels.

He even must have a heart.

Just a reminder that God isn't a concept, He's alive forevermore!

According to Fretheim, "Anthropomorphic metaphors have tended to be depreciated, even denigrated, in the history of Judeo-Christian thought and OT scholarship in particular." If an attribute of God is consistent with your doctrine, then we are dealing with a shared attribute. But if the attribute is inconsistent with your doctrine, well then the attribute may be dismissed as an anthropomorphism. However the truth is God has revealed Himself to us using anthropmorphic metaphors, and to challenge their validity is to say God's inspired words were so ill chosen they create a false understanding of God. I for one say Amen to Psalm 115 decripture of God as being able to understand and interact with man.
