Psalm 41 - A Devotion
New King James Version
The Blessing and Suffering of the Godly
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
"Blessed is he who considers the poor; [the helpless and the weak - revealing the heart of a servant]
The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.
The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive,
And he will be blessed on the earth; [bearing much fruit]
You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. [to kill our hope, to steal our joy, or destroy our witness]
The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness;
You will sustain him on his sickbed.
I said, “Lord, be merciful to me;
Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” [God's priority over physical healing - can He get a witness ?!?]
My enemies speak evil of me:
“When will he die, and his name perish?” [we are hated by the enemy because we are loved by God!]
And if he comes to see me, he speaks lies; [flattery]
His heart gathers iniquity to itself; [bitterness consumes him],
When he goes out, he tells it. [the talebearer and gossip who slanders behind our and other's backs]
All who hate me whisper together against me;
Against me they devise my hurt.
“An evil disease,” they say, “clings to him.
And now that he lies down, he will rise up no more.” [but God has His purposes - to raise us up from the ashes after enduring testing - like He did with Job]
Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me. [no one knows betrayal like Jesus - seek His comfort and direction]
But You, O Lord, be merciful to me, and raise me up,
That I may repay them. [with love - remember God shows mercy to him who shows mercy]
By this I know that You are well pleased with me,
Because my enemy does not triumph over me. [can't TOUCH our spirits!]
As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, [giving glory to God in all circumstances]
And set me before Your face forever. [and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever!]
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel [the Body of Christ]
From everlasting to everlasting!
Amen and Amen."
