Psalm 103:1-5 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Just recently heard a message on these verses...was said that this psalm is obviously a praise psalm...there are no requests for God to do anything, but only heartfelt praises for what He so wondrously and mercifully has done already! :D Tiz attributed to being written by king David, who well knew the LORD's love, forgiveness, deliverance, provision, and physical and spiritual renewal! ;)

Maybe David was feeling down as he penned this psalm, yet he wouldn't allow himself to wallow in self-pity perhaps (doesn't solve anyting, just makes trying circumstances more unbearable). Instead he latched onto his faith in His glorious God and chose the path of jooooooooooooooy, pulling up the bootstraps of his soul...commanding his innermost being...to rise up and REMEMBER (rather than forget) God's faithfulness to him in the past...to recall allllllllllllllll that he had to rejoice about because of God's great goodness to him! This to build his faith in his present trying times and to give him renewed hope for his future!

Also the exhortation to bless the LORD's HOLY name makes the verses that follow even sweeter and more marvelling! God Most High continually ministers such unmerited blessings to each of us even though we get all dirty and dusty in the world. He indeed remembers that we are dust, yet crowns us with love and compassion!
