  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Proverbs 16 verse 18 "Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall".

There are several instances in the Bible where a proud/arrogant King/Leader has lost his position (and very life in some cases) because of pride. Herod in Acts chapter 12 stands out:

21And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24But the word of God grew and multiplied.

Ole Herod left this world but the Word grew and grew.

Belshazzar of Daniel Chapter 5 was another one whose pride was his downfall. He was weighed in the balances and found wanting. He did not glorify God in whose hand his very breath of life was...and it cost him his life.

I look around at the world leader's today, and see the same pride and arrogancy. God is still on the throne.

Any more instances of pride come to mind?

Hello Walkin2e --

I would say that almost any time a sin is committed, pride is somehow involved. After all, wasn't pride the downfall of Satan himself? Perhaps if one is studying instances of pride, it is useful to note instances of humility, as well.

Take King Ahab, for example:

"But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up. And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel."

Yet after hearing the stern prophesy God gave to Elijah, King Ahab humbled himself, and was allowed to retain his royal position:

"And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house."
