What day on the calendar is for Saint GBTWC?
My birthday is march 26th if you'd like you can use that ,I know that day is for The Archangel Gabriel Being that he's an angel I'm sure he will share. you know now that I think about it I dont want a day Ill give my day to God everything that makes me a saint is by His Grace and provision anyway.
Do you have any icons?
Yes One of them is at the top left of this post and as you might notice I'm pointing up symbolically at our Creator to whom all Glory should go to, so please dont venerate me it makes me uncomfortable and just feels a little to close to worship for me.
Yes
Then you are not the kind of Saint being asked about.
Yes I am. its not up to you my Father said Iam and that's who I believe
There are saints and there are Saints
.
So a capitol letter will keep you out of the presence of God?
My Bible says your either a Saint or an Ain't an I ain't an Ain't.

I think you need to read the Saint's lives at http://www.oca.org/

Have you given up all worldly possessions to serve others? Have you given all of your riches to the poor? Have you wandered about in a hair cloth shirt, giving up your silk ties, and dress shirts? Or even given up your tee shirts? Have you been martyred and kept the faith against all tortures?

If so, then you are the caliber of Saint we are talking about. Just saying it is so doesn't mean it is so. :amen:

Indeed Bill. I suggest reading the lives of some of my favorite Saints, St. Seraphim of Sarov, St. John of San Francisco, St. Mary of Egypt, and St. Symeon the Stylite. Those Saints led very holy lives. You can also read about some of the people who have gave their lives for the Faith such as the Fourty Martyrs of Sebaste, St. Hermeas the Martyr, St. Philsophus, or any of the lives of the New Martyrs of Russia.

Here is the lives of St. Hermeas and St. Philsophus (Hermeas is 2 and Philsophus is 3): http://www.westsrbdio.org/prolog/May31.htm

The lives of the other Saints I mentioned are on the OCA site.

The reason that we venerate saints, and remember the day (which is usually the day of their falling asleep in the Lord, the day on which they enter into the joy of the Lord) is precisely because they point to God. It has nothing to do with elevating certain people above others, but everything to do with recognizing and giving thanks to God for the incredible grace He bestows upon us by giving us these wonderful people in our midst. The Saints are those who most exemplify the life that we are all called to, those who inspire us, teach us, pray for us and heal us. But we still recognize that they do none of this but by God's work through them. Even the icons that we paint point to this fact. An icon is not a physical portrait. Everything in an icon is meant to represent a transfigured reality. Our saints are depicted radiating the holy light that Christ manifested on Mount Tabor. But it is not their light, but the light of Christ shining through them. We venerate the icons to show honor to those who have become partakers of the Divine nature. Likewise, we venerate each other by greeting one another with a holy kiss. We don't believe that only Saints are transformed through Christ, we believe that we all are, and we honor God wherever He is manifest.

If your Bible says that you might want to look into a more accurate translation. ;) We don't believe that only Saints go to heaven.

I primarily use the NKJV but I have several others what version would you recommend. it seems to me that God dwells in unapproachable light and basically unrighteousness cant dwell in Gods presence . like in the parable if you dont have the right wedding Garment you're out in the darkness with the aints. can you think of any verses that might show where those who are not cleansed(PURE) enter in? of course any righteousness we have is only Gods Grace but gifted righteousness is still righteousness and I'm soakin in it:)

There are some people that Protestants venerate, not in the way we do. A.W. Tozer, John and Charles Wesley (I love and have the greatest respect for them.), Martin Luther, etc. Depending of course which theological tradition a particular church descends from will make the difference. I know African Methodist Episcopal churches called John Wesley.

You've gotta do those things all the time!!! Every time you get money, you give it away to the poor with no money left for you!! Anything you get, you give away. You pray continously throughout the day and live in very humble dwellings. You are kind and loving to all and consistently are.

You dedicate the better part of your day and all your life to following God and putting Him first in everything you do ALL THE TIME.

If someone wrongs you, you FAST for their penance.

There's lots to being a Saint. :)

how come the other Saints didn't have to do it all the time some of them messed up sometimes Ive read their stories
Every time you get money, you give it away to the poor with no money left for you!! Anything you get, you give away.
the only one who even came close to what you describe is our Lord and even he kept the essentials. plus I do that anyway Ive Got a wife ;)
You pray continuously throughout the day and live in very humble dwellings.
I believe Im living in communion with God that allows me to pray continuously and I got no problem with living in a tent , but part of my first minis trey is my family and that wouldnt please God for me to drag her of to live in a cave besides there plenty of Saints who didn't live in constant poverty its not money that is evil its the love of it.
You are kind and loving to all and consistently are.
again only our Lord fits this description

You dedicate the better part of your day and all your life to following God and putting Him first in everything you do
yes
ALL THE TIME.
Im starting to think you dont want me to be a Saint. their is only one who was perfect Jesus Christ all that Ive done right is by His strength power and to Him goes the glory
If someone wrongs you, you FAST for their penance.
I fast from smacking them around but again your raisin the bar higher for me than others youve declared Saints . yes is the answer God has Given me Grace to forgive those who wrong me.

There's lots to being a Saint. :)
Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
that's a high standard and I dont know of any one who has kept this standard besides our Lord

OK stop asking me whether I do good stuff I dont want to waist my reward besides God knows my heart is filthy and I dont deserve nothing but a lightning bolt to the forehead so please pray for me and Ill do the same for you
:prayer:

LOL GB, everything I mentioned, is what St. Nektarios has done. I didn't add the fact that he cleaned bathrooms and did other janitorial work for a janitor at the school he was dean of for around 4 months while the janitor was out with an illness so that the janitor wouldn't lose his job since he had a family to support!!! St. Nektarios is amazing!!!

Shubunkin: Have you been martyred and kept the faith against all tortures?
GBTWC: yes

if you were martyred you'd be dead. and you have to perform miracles after you die.
rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter

rom 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

2cor 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead

Im dead and no Saint ever performed a miracle but it was God working in and through Him so If that is what qualifies me Im in

whats kinda trippy is b-4 I wasn't sure if Id pass the religious test to be a Saint but according to all these questions you all are asking I qualify, of course its not really that important how a religion views me, becouse scripture exhorts us not to be man pleasers but God pleasers. what is important is that my Father qualifies me :)

with love Saint Bill :holy:

I find GBTWC's signature quite offensive. He is not a Saint. He is not recognized by the Orthodox Church as such. I could call my cat a Saint and it would be on the same level of honesty as this person.
why are you talking to others about me like I cant hear you ? Ill tell you what my intention isn't to offend you so Ill work on Changing my signature tonight. you do have a good point that Im not recognized by the Orthodox church. my question is you say your cat could be a saint ? that wasn't intended to be offensive was it ? I believe you're implying Im a Liar. like I said before my intentions are not to please man but God . your cat does have a Good start in that at least he/she isn't being judgemental about another's walk.

With love for you and your cat
