SDA's, of which I'm not affiliated, are not the only ones that hold that it's foolish to promote historicism as an Amillennialist or Postmillennialist. The affiliates of the Church of God also are Premillennialists that promote historicism from a sound hermeneutic. Their hermeneutics sustain a fifth beast in Daniel 7 as the antichrist/papacy. which is the fifth head or mountain that has fallen from John's future perspective in Revelation 17. Amill hermeneutics cannot sustain such a thing as they hold the ludicrous notion that the fifth kingdom according to Daniel 2 is Christ's millennial kingdom, which commenced with the first advent.

Historicism was the belief held by the majority of the Protestant Reformers, including Martin Luther, John Calvin, Thomas Cranmer, and others including John Thomas, John Knox, and Cotton Mather. The Catholic church tried to counter it with preterism and Futurism during the Counter-Reformation.

Where do you think you are at now? Or have you not quite found a theological home on this issue?

I am sure you are aware of partial-preterism. I'm getting into this topic with some Anglican and EO posters, and find it a really cool, logical, sensible way to read Revelation. It's pretty neat, and actually makes sense. I hope you get to find your way through this issue, and keep reading and searching. You are one of the brightest guys on CF, imo, and I know that if I ever need to know anything about Calvinism, you're my go-to guy.
