Wow no wonder you moved on..Visited on once, it was dead....No message about trusting in Christ for salvation or the word being preached...No wonder Christ calls people out of a dead religious system.. I'ts all about Christ, living for Him and sharing the gospel with those around you..peace to you..nab

wow, how uncharitable, that parish could have just been going through a dry spell, up the road or in the next town there might be a presbyterian congregation that is filled with the Holy Spirit, and on fire for the Lord

I've often dreamed of preaching in a robe. Wonder though, do they allow you to update the robe at all? Can you modify it . . . say with a big bird on the bat logo? Or are they pretty much untouchable? Do you have different colors for different days? Tell me about the robes Tad.

I've often dreamed of preaching in a robe. Wonder though, do they allow you to update the robe at all? Can you modify it . . . say with a big bird on the bat logo? Or are they pretty much untouchable? Do you have different colors for different days? Tell me about the robes Tad.

There's a lovely little community of Benedictine sisters near my house. They support their order by sewing vestements. I wouldn't dare to update one, their pretty nice as they are. I can see a big bird on one, but not a big bird on a bat, nice though, as it is.

I don't get to wear different colors. Just a black cassock and white surplice. The priest wears different colors depending on the day. Today, in commemeration of the feast of St. Callistus, the vestements were red to remind us of the blood of the martyrs. They are also red during Palm Sunday as a reminder of the Lord's Passion as they also are during Confirmation masses as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Green is the color of Ordinary time. Ordinary time are those times which are not extraordinary.(Ha ha) Really, ordinary time are those days which occur outside the Advent/Christmas seasons and the Lent/Easter season. During Advent the liturgical color is a deep blue/purple, I'm not sure why, nice color though. Purple is the color of penance and thus is the color of Lent and white is the color of Easter/Christmas and holy days.

Thanks for the info Tad. Robes are worn only when you're 'in the office' or 'in service'? Do you wear a collar when you go out to eat with your wife?

4749. stole stol-ay' from 4724; equipment, i.e. (specially), a "stole" or long-fitting gown (as a mark of dignity):--long clothing (garment), (long) robe.

I'm pretty sure only priests (and maybe deacons) wear the Roman collars. I'm just a layman, so I only vest when serving mass. (with no collar)

Outside of mass I usually wear something like this:

I have. We have a traditional service at 8:00 -- it's kinda stuffy, slacks, suit coat, etc; But the 10:30 service is contemporary -- jeans, t-shirts, etc; I once won a Mark McGwire jersey at a softball homerun derby. Wore that the next sunday.
