Easy, as others have said the Apostle Paul, James, Peter, John, Luke, Stephen, among many others. I don't really know or care about church history pre or post Luther.

What's the point of this thread? Where are you going with it Catholic Dude?

Jan Hus, Augustine, Clement of Rome, Athanasius, Clement of Alexandria, Ignatius of Antioch, Polycarp, Justin Martyr, St. John Crysostom.

Now, name a few non-Roman Catholics after Luther that you think are Christian.

Why does it matter? They're in heaven now. Only Christ nows the hearts of men.

I love it how people are judging and criticising the OP for comments that he hasn't either made or alluded to. How about you at least wait until he has said something you have an issue with before you jump down his throat.

And as to some non-Catholic christians, just to throw some names around:

Billy Graham
My parents
My grandparents

Blessings to you all

I love so many of them, but I am a tad partial.

Ignatius who was martyred in the lion den.

ALL of the ones who did gr8 works, and performed miracles. As they were evidently in the palms of the Lord. ;)

Now in retrospect, I do not like the 'men' who did not precisely follw the Lord...for to know the Lord and profess Him means your heart is with Him.

Many 'men' came thru the ages causing havoc and harm to the Church.

Should they be demonstrative of the CHURCH?
By NO means, they cannot be....but in the words of St Francis when questioned .......

A member of the sect of the Cathari elbowed his way through the throng, and, pointing to the village pastor, said to Francis: "Tell us, good man, how can this shepherd of souls demand faith and reverence, since he is living in concubinage and notorious sin?" Walking over to the priest Francis knelt down in the mire, kissed his hands and said: "I know not whether these hands are unclean or not, but even if so, the power of the sacraments administered by them is not diminished thereby. These hands have touched my Lord. Out of reverence for the Lord I honor His vicar; for himself, he may be bad; for me, he is good."

Well it looks like this thread spun out of control.

To tag onto what was asked in the OP, I would also request that people add a quote from the person they named and state why they consider that person to be a Christain.

newadvent.com (catholic page) and ccel.org (protestant page) both list the ECFs as well as other documents if people need to look something up.

What do you mean? Everybody knows that there were no Christians until 300 years after Luther! Are you just trying to get a rise out of us brother? ;)

Heretic! :D :D

Shock horror!

Look, I haven't even read the thread and I could have told you that would happen.:)

Look, without consulting the prior posts, this can only go one of two ways-

a) Define "Christian", and what it means to be a Christian. Then one could answer the question as to who was and who wasn't etc.

b) Or, my answer. "Everyone of the faithful baptised was and is a Christian". I define "faithful" as devoutly born-anew people following Christ, not according to their accumulation of knowledge about Christian theology, but about relying on Him for salvation. We need to be graceful in understanding and recognising God's work in those who we sincerly think are wrong.

There is a third option, of course. Pious silence. It's God's business and we are just making judgments based on our weak, darkened human perspective.
